This thread has gone way off track. And as a guilty party, I propose another cocktail for the greatest of them all. But don't take my word for it, listen to this guy...

The New Orleans classics are hard to beat. In addition to the Sazerac and the Julep, I'll throw in the Vieux Carré and the La Louisiane.

Vieux Carré:
0.75oz Rye
0.75oz Cognac
0.75oz Sweet Vermouth
0.25oz Benedictine
dash of Peychaud's Bitters
dash of Angostura Bitters

Stirred, rocks, garnish with a wide orange zest

stir over ice, strain into an absinthe-rinsed cocktail glass, garnish with a cherry
