Sony Rx1 vs Rx1r vs Fuji X100F

So, I am retiring my Sony RX100 camera and am looking for a new camera.

I am eyeing a used Sony Rx1, Rx1r or a Fuji X100F. The consensus is the Rx’s produce better images than the X100F. I dont need a viewfinder so the Rx’s work. My only issue is the width is long with that big lens. It may be too big for the bike. I plan to keep the camera in an Oveja Negra Chuckbucket. Are there any other small 24+ mps 35mm lens that I am missing.

I guess you could add the Leica Q but everyone has a great camera nowadays. It's not about the camera.

The Q weighs as much as a DSLR! Doesn't Panasonic make something like this in the Lumix line?

If you don't mind me asking, why retire the RX 100? By all accounts it's a superb camera. I ask because I'm on the fence between it and a Canon G7XII and can't see why the Sony is nearly $500 more.

I have run the RX100 from hell and back. Its been in a jersey or and handlebar bag probably 3x a week for the last 3 year. There is a dust stop on the sensor and the machinery is slowed down considerably. I would highly recommend thr sony.
Especially for durability.

If you get the RX1, get whatever the newest version is. The AF is much improved. The earliest model can be frustrating.

Maybe look at the Fuji XE-3 with a pancake 18mm lens. Or the X-T3 with a compact zoom. I don't know if either would be small enough to fit into the Chuckbucket, but Rohner carries an X-T2 and so does another cyclist I know.

Panasonic makes the GX-9 and the LX100II. Both are good cameras. The GX-9 is micro-4/3rds though, so while you can attach pancake lenses to keep them small, their best lenses are not so compact though they are great lenses. The LX100II is a fixed lens short zoom. My sister-in-law has one and swears by it. She's pretty picky about image quality, so it must be pretty good.

But Bobonli is right. Not much out there with the size, sensor and optical quality of the RX100 series. The Fuji X100F is a different camera in a lot of ways, but strangely it does seem like the closest competitor.

Not just slow, failure to lock on in anything other than in really bright light and with uncomplicated scenery. So the lens will just keep racking in and out of focus and not let you take a photo because it hasn't been able to fix on any one thing. You can work around it and take photos with it, but I just thought why would I when a cheap point & shoot works better.

One thing about durability - lenses that telescope out of the body introduce a lot of crud into the camera. Getting something like a Fuji X100 or a camera with interchangeable lenses like the Fuji X-T2 with a pancake lens might be better in that respect. No lens movement in and out of the body each time you turn it on. And no zoom doing the same either.

That right there was the death of my last Canon P&S. At first the lens would take it sweet time extending then one day it just wouldn't deploy at all. As much as I'd like to go fixed lens, there are so many times on a ride or hike that you just need the zoom.

The Canon EOS M6 has been out for a while. That gets good marks too. Small body with no-so-small lenses, but would be worth a look. The prices ($599 new) seem reasonable. There is also a cheaper model called the M100 ($399) that works with the same lenses. Canon builds a ton of cameras and floods the market with supply, so these things end up in the used department pretty quickly after they come out. If you are shooting in a dust filled environment and the image quality of these cameras is high enough (Canon's usually pretty high) then getting an inexpensive body + choice of lenses might be the way to go.

I was looking at some sneak peaks of the GR3 last night. It looks impressive.

I can’t help with the camera, as I schlep a Fuji XP2 in a RuthWorks Ultralight Brevet Bag maybe 1/5 rides.

The rest of the time I roll with an iPhone.

I don’t get above the treeline or access landscapes as much as you do, so the iPhone is adequate much of the time, and this arrangement strikes a balance between convenience and quality for me.

If I was committed to shooting landscapes on every ride, I’d simply keep that rando pack on full time... it does a great job of suspending the bag and contents in front of the bars.

In my opinion, with modern cameras picture quality is secondary to aspects as ergonomy or apropiateness of the lenses. I mean that almost every camera in the market does truly excellent images if you now how to work with it. It is the ergonomy and the access to your preferred settings what makes the difference. Nowadays I find more important to choose the right lens for your shooting, and then attach a camera that can handle it properly. I like the micro 4/3s system because allows all kind of configurations, from very small with a fix lens, to professional grade with their pro lenses. I have a Olympus E-M10 and when I take it with the bike I couple it with a Leica 15mm f1.7 (30mm-equivalent FOV). This is small enough to carry it in a handlebar bag and not too heavy, similar to the Sony RX1 in size, but still allows me to use the camera with the 12-35 f2.8 zoom when I travel, so best of both words. The system also allows for smaller configurations, if that is what you are looking for.

Once said that, I always liked the Sony RX1 very much. It must be a very fun camera to shoot with. Unfortunately it is too expensive for me, but if you like it go for it.

I dunno I don't think the RX1 would be an improvement on the RX100. The form factor of the RX100 is pretty much perfect for cycling. I'd buy a newer RX100 or Canon Powershot G7 or G9.

I use Canon EOS M6. She completely suits me because I can make individual settings for me.

Also, made a special rack for this camera on the bike. I had to work hard, but the result was worth it, I got the video I wanted. Sometimes I don’t understand why there is such a big zoom for such cameras to look like through telescopes at the moon?)

I have 1 of these and like it quite a bit.
Canon G7XII

fits in pocket, decent sized sensor, shoots raw...has held up well ( so far ), sharp lens.
excellent travel camera.
