I guess I could always teach him to weld:)

Maybe show him the response above from spopepro.

I'll come and learn welding from you.

My grump. My 7yo came off his scooter (they are a grump for another day) last weekend and wacked his head pretty hard. Big egg and decent concussion. He has hit his head again at school and now my wife is going to have a stressful afternoon sitting with him in ER while they monitor him and not be able to pick up the other kids etc. I can't do jack shit as I'm interstate. This is just after I signed him up to start racing BMX which he won't be able to do for a while now in case he knocks his head again. He's naturally a risk taker, but not just doing stupid stuff, and I want him to give him a bit of freedom with it but these knocks have got me worried. It's going to be hard to slow him down for a while. Especially whe his brother just wants to wrestle with him all the time.

A Manhattan doc who bowled in Williamsburg tested positive for ebola. Got off at my stop. Probably in the first car too. Fuck.

I can no longer upload pics from my desktop to VS to show my back-to-life '98 hard tail that I plan to use for my #wintercommutershredsesh.

Oh, and "4K Club?" That's embarrassing.

^^ My last grump of the day. I don't have the 4K club badge. I'm well over 4K. Maybe it only counts toward relevant posts. I'm probably not even in the 100 club then.

It's earnings week, which means I'm still working at this time of night.
    My in-laws are in town.
Entire household is sick with something the 1-yr old brought back from playgroup or swim class. This is the first time, but won't be the last.
I've had a headwind on every single leg of my commute this week.

All manageable on their own, but combined they form a Voltron of suck.

One more, and then the pushups...

2 visits to the vet this week.

Rapper 2 Chains has a web show called Most Expensivest Shit. "Most Expensivest Shit! Most Expensivest Dog! Remember the time you had $400 diarrhea? Now you're taking $900 pee-pees." Actual thing I just actually said to my actual dog, who has a urinary infection.

Would a proper butler go and get it for his employer if such a request was made?

It feels really poor to say it being on a university faculty, but for IT spots certifications, demonstrable skills, and experience are way more valuable than the sheepskin. Speaking strictly about employment here... you're likely to be a more complete human with a quality degree--it just might not be a good purely financial transaction.

My related grump is our now 9 month old open position for a mid-level IT person here that we can't seem to get anyone even trainable to apply for. I'm tired of picking up the extra work...

edoz...wrt ITT --> If the kid has aptitude and any experience, (builds his own h/w...writes his own code, etc..) he'd be better off just looking for a job and finding someone willing to take a chance on him. As for CCNA, et.. certs.....they can be worth something, but man..I have hired/fired and had to work with waaayyyy too many "Paper Tigers" over the years to put too much stock in them. Often, at best...the person may have deep knowledge that is very narrow in scope. That can be handy, but as already noted it can doom the cert owner to low-level drudgery. Folks that have a balance of skills, risk-receptivity, and big-picture thinking are the gold standard and more valuable then someone who can config a firewall...and only somewhat correctly do that...any day of the week. Send him spopepro's way. Best if you can convince him to attend college. An Associates from a local community college would have more overall worth then ITT...and you will save a ton of cash.

Spopepro----->> Where are you located? In this economy you can't find a midlevel guy that is at least trainable? Not window-shopping, are we?

Apologies for this out-of-phase post. Pushups being done.

Hopefully a monday post will be forgiven:

All summer I kept asking if we needed to purchase equipment before the budget cycle ends. Seemed strange that they kept saying, "No." but hey it's apparently not my job to think.

Today I get an email that we need to purchase a $10,000 lighting kit and it needs to be paid for and inventoried by Thursday.

Guess what? All of our vendors are in NY. It won't ship out today.
Guess what? None have this shit in stock -- including B+H and Adorama.
    Guess who's fault is is.

Our town has a trick or treat thing for little kids where people set up spooky tables and hand out candy. Fine. Not fine: the stupid dipshit lady who thought it would be cute to dress as a "sexy ebola nurse"* complete with high heels and fake blood on her face. Killer diseases, how funny!! Why not be a "sexy oncologist" complete with bad news x-rays? That's funny too, right?

*to be thorough, I'd like to point out this woman is not sexy by any measure, unless giant muffin-tops are your thing. She attempts the "sexy" Halloween costume thing every year, but the result is truly frightening. Which, I guess, is a more traditional Halloween theme.
