wrist-top computers
this certainly does not belong in the timepiece thread, but a development i am excited about, hence the new thread:
garmin [finally!] added solar charging to an expanded segment of their line-up. it's not perfect, and there is room for improvement, but good enough that i took the plunge on a new fenix watch.
Solar charging added to the fenix 6pro, 6s, instinct and tactix line.
i travel a lot, and want to know that a watch can definitely hack through a couple weeks on the road without needing charging, so i've stayed away from real EDC use of a smart watch, but this could potentially be a game changer for me. anyway, i rushed this purchase before i really did a deep dive into how good the solar charging really is, but whatever. i like it so far!

I've had a Fenix 6 solar...if you use the god the solar charging isn't enough to replenish...just something to keep in mind

Re: wrist-top computers
But if you do say one 5h ride every two days and wear the watch all day would the solar charging be enough to charge it completely between two rides ?

good questions, i'm going to be gathering some data on the actual solar charging value over the next few weeks.

lots of variables, but the actual solar "panel" is only 1mm wide around the perimeter of the screen...the rest of the screen does absorb sunlight but at only 10%...gps is pretty battery intensive
notwithstanding, they are great watches

I hope the solar charging works, or eventually works.
I've been wearing an Apple watch this summer: amazing piece of tech, but the battery stinks.
