Jessi Combs dies during attempt to set land speed record

Jessi Combs, of Mythbusters Fame, died trying to earn the title "fastest woman on earth".





Her "car" was basically a Lockheed F-104 Starfighter with the wings removed. That vehicle was scary enough with its tiny wings still attached. I think she was somewhere north of 600 mph when she lost control of the vehicle.

That's a terrible loss - she was a really cool person, and obviously as brave as they come.

If memory serves, the 104 nearly killed Chuck Yeager too. Trying to land something with wings that small had to be quite a challenge - I'm guessing the stall speed was pretty high.

Agreed. She was a big promoter of women in science and the trades. She designed women's welding gear sold by Lincoln Electric. She co-founded and supported this collaborative: Real Deal Revolution

One heck of a resume for somebody who didn't yet see her 40th birthday.
