Default Ski Goggles for Imperfect Vision

What is the current ‘best practice’ for ski goggles when you wear corrective lenses?

I’ve been out of the skiing arena since before my kids were born and since then I’ve needed Rx lenses for distance. I had Sports Optical add the Rx to my cycling glasses because being able to see street signs is pretty important! It looks like I’ll be resuming skiing and wonder how to manage the Rx in goggle form.

Do you get Rx goggles, are there inserts, or do you just wear your regular glasses underneath? I’m guessing that this gets awfully expensive since I’m seeing prices of $200 and up just for the goggles.

I know what doesn’t work from my experience in blowing snow today: wearing your cycling glasses by themselves does not provide enough protection.

(Shoulda never taken the kids skiing. They love it but this is a sport that can be just as expensive as cycling)

My wife HATED wearing glasses under the goggles. Too much fogging up. Plus uncomfortable. Plus she was scared of damage to her face/ skull/ if she crashed.

She ended up getting inserts. They needed her prescription. And the model of goggles she uses.

She only got distance (she thought bifocal and/or progressive would be too hard because of the lack of peripheral vision etc). Took a day or two to get used to but now she won't go out without the insert inside the goggles.

These work for me. Prescription Snow Goggle Insert - Prescription Available | SportRx

A helmet helps, if you get steamy put them up while you're on the lift and they don't fog. They're available for less $$ on ebay or the like and have them filled locally

    Follow Up question:

    Photochromic/reactive lenses: Functional or gimmick?
It seems the better quality goggles either require interchangeable lenses or they are photochromic to deal with different lighting conditions. I've never owned photochromic, so no experience to make a decision.

Gimmick. They get too dark when it's sunny out, stay too dark when it gets cloudy, and don't change fast enough. Pick one color lens that you can tolerate as a compromise (dark rose, for example) and never change lenses again.
