Pinched nerve / radiculopathy surgery

Recurring and increasing pain over my right shoulder blade led me to various doctors and an MRI. I've been diagnosed with degenerative discs, causing a pinched nerve / radiculopathy. Surgery has been recommended with a titanium plate.

To say that I'm not excited about this is an understatement.

I know this is limited information for a complex problem, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with such a condition / remedy. Do other forms of treatment work long term?

How long have you had the symptoms, any weakness in the muscles of the arm independent of pain? Has your doctor discussed an epidural injection?

They may be right, but before undergoing spinal surgery you bet your ass I'm going to get another opinion.
