Going to LA for a week... Suggestions?

Okay, so I know it's a huge city and the possibilities are endless! But my partner and I are taking a vacation to the greater Los Angeles area at the end of May. We are flying out Friday the 20th and staying until the following Friday. So far we definitely have planned watching the last two stages of the Tour of California and checking out some of the scenic hills/nature parks. She really wants to maybe try to go to San Francisco... but I'm not sure that's a possibility (flights look to be pretty reasonable each way, so maybe we could spend a day/night in SF?) We definitely also want to hit the beach one day.

Unfortunately I will not be bringing a bicycle with me, but I think I will rent one of those Mosiacs from Above Category. So if anybody wants to ride Monday - Thursday and wants to meet up, that would be awesome!

Any suggestions for fun things to do, please let me know! We want to do all of the things!

Isn't Above Category up north like SF area?

I won't be able to ride with you but I can offer some routes for rides in the Hollywood Hills or Santa Monica Mtns. PM me if you want.

AC is up in Joostland aka Marin County. Not exactly a day trip unless you are going just for a cup of coffee.

Tour of CA ends in Sacramento this year not LA.

Only thing I want to do in LA is see the space shuttle. Other than that I'd rather stay as far away as possible.

I've been to LA a bunch to visit family over the years and it's definitely not my favorite of all the amazing places to visit in California. Fun can be had, especially if you like to party and get freaky. Joshua Tree National Park was also pretty cool for communing with nature. But I'd recommend driving or taking the train down to Carlsbad for a few days, renting a bike there and doing the Swamis ride, a spin along PCH and maybe heading up into the hills.

You could try I. Martin Imports (ask for Fred or Jaime) maybe Bike Effect or Bike Improve (talk to Raul).
