Gillette sues Dollar Shave Club for patent infringement - The Boston Globe

it is really funny that Gillette management slept through the introduction of internet based competitors and is now in pursuit by their preferred method.
use our deep pockets to sue them out of business.
my point here is not that possibly they have patent rights to defend... the point is that they totally missed the fact that 10 years from now every now 20-40 yr old will just buy these things on line and have them delivered to their house for free.
their brick and mortar business will disappear relentlessly... and the giant margins that have floated the company for 100 years will be chopped to pieces.

    [X] Dislike

On a more serious note, I'd be interested in seeing the differences in margins and the distribution chain between a company like Gillette and Dollar Shave Club. A pack of replacement blades from the store is obscenely expensive. Especially when compared with Dollar Shave Club's subscription price. But they likely need multiple levels of distributors to get the product on the shelf, and each needs to make enough to make the effort worthwhile.

Dollar shave club is doomed, Amazon is working on a robot consumer to buy

I do believe Buy Monthly Razors for Men & Women | ShaveMOB | Best Shaving Razor & Reviews is a better value, with the same quality.

i'd grow out my arm, leg, facial, and chest hair in protest, but...well...i'd likely soon be served papers

Love my dollar shave club. The shave gel is the goods. The cheap razors are just that, but a helluva lot cheaper. I'm done with Gillette, have been for a while now.

the whole thing is an interesting microcosm of a gigantic change in the way people buy stuff.

    prediction
some hedge fund will buy dollar shave club for $3.5b
cause they know the business will all be done on line within 5 years.

    Interesting story.

I'm sure Gillette will catch up to market realities. I mean, when I think "nimble," "modern" and "adaptable," I think Gillette.

I find it hard to work up any sympathy at all for Proctor & Gamble. I cared a bit more when Gillette was actually a local company.

But that's another discussion altogether, huh?

I guess Dorco makes all of DSC's products. I went to the source, spent $30 and got enough cartridges (and three handles) to keep me going for at least the next five years. I don't know about Dorco's ethics, but Gillette's are definitely no good.

I appear to have gotten my father hooked on Harry's blades and products by giving him a gift set last Christmas. Tells me it's a far better product than Gillette.
The only problem is, he lives outside the US and Harry's only ship inside the US, which means I eat the cost of international shipping whenever I need to gift him more blades...

Now, if only someone would find a way to get me a Pinarello without having to pay the distribution channel price...

All you shavers really should try the bearded look - if only because it helps keep you warmer on cold-weather rides.

(The holidays are a perfect time to get started.)

And no, just because you have a beard that doesn't mean you have to ride a recumbent.

I'm still trying to figure out how I slept through the introduction of internet based razor blade vendors!
I still go on some asinine hunt every month or two scoping out all the local drugstores and houseware retailers trying to find overpriced blades for the now-archaic and mostly undifferentiated razor I've been using for the past 20 years. Meanwhile I buy chains and cassettes for next to nothing from PBK across the pond. Why am I such a luddite when it comes to shaving?

Keep in mind there is a direct relationship to beard length, and recumbent-curious thoughts. If you find yourself wearing a Tyvek windbreaker from an event two decades ago, shave immediately.
