Default Photos of your under-the-downtube water/fuel bottle installations

Never installed them, interested in photos and info related to doing so. Checking magazines and inter web but still want a little more perspective before drilling the holes. Large frame, 700c x 36 with fenders. Photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/216244...57659169340551

I'm mocking it up but wondering what detail will slap me after the fact.

    Thanks.

Just make sure the bottle (with the cage stand off) clears the fender, and make sure that the cable routing is still smooth and functional.

I noticed some cable interference on my mockup bike. What are you using for cage standoffs? It looks like the cage can be located very low on the DT, nearly to the BB shell DT spigot without chainring interference.

It depends on your needs. Presta nuts work great if you need them. On smaller bikes I often run them quite low.

I see a front rack, so I assume a frame-bag won't be used and I wonder why the bottle cages are so low? For the sake of being practical and better looks, I would see the cage bosses on the ST being higher, so that both cages have the same distance from the BB.
If you're running the cable stops on the DT, I would keep them low and not too far from each other. With such long HT you'll have generous length of gear/brake outer, so having an eyelet on the HT would allow you to keep the cable stops close, yet not rubbing against the HT and most important the cabling will run smooth

The rider wants them as low as possible and has the arm length to manage it but thanks for the perspectives.

Here is the final, full dress fitting trial; no problems.

my calves hit a water bottle on the seat tube if the cage is mounted the same distance from the bb as the DT bottle cage. Never thought about the aesthetics, but avoiding the annoyance trumps looks any time. I have a commercially built frame with the seat tube bottle mounted too high, I wish King or someone would make a "my builder screwed up cage" for bikes like that.

Keep the under the down tube mounts LOW enough to clear fenders and the front wheel. Several times I've measured the bottles up to the wheel and then had to make the mount lower to clear the fenders. Low my friend. Touring, one usually needs that 3rd bottle when it's stinking hot, or on a long ride without stops frequent enough to top off, so one can grab that 3rd bottle on pee stops etc. can be done riding, but not necessarily.

Don't over-freaking-think it, just put the lower H2O boss 2.5cm from the tip of the BB miter and there you go.

Here's a photo of the downtube bottle location on my touring rig that Garro ^ made. It's well located; I never notice it. It's for fuel. If it leaks, it's not onto food or clothes. That would stink on a 9-day tour like this without towns or resupplies.

I placed them thusly, last week. It clears the chain rings and fender nicely. Thanks for the perspectives.

    (sorry for the thred drift!)
    Big kit

The low mount for the fuel makes a lot of sense, although I'd use a safe bottle like the Trangia one. Is it Meths/Ethanol?

It is big: 9 days of food, two days of water and a DSLR / lens kit. And a chair. Never used a safe bottle. Will check out. Sorry for thread drift.
