    Default TV Gurus

I am looking for a 32" TV for my pain cave. I will have a cable box and internet available.

    Questions,

    1. is a smart TV worth the extra $?
    2. Is it worth to spend a little more money for a 1080P vs a 720P?

    Should I just get this?

I wouldn't call myself a guru, but I have a Samsung LED as my main set and it's great. The Smart TV features are cool for a week. I haven't touched them in the last 2 years. If I was a heavy Netflix user, I might use it more. But I think 1080p is worth it. I think the one you linked to would be fine for a pain cave.

Have to agree with Matt here. 1080p is pretty nice, especially for the Tour de France and other sporting events.

    Smart TV ain't worth it.

Roku for internet. Depending on how picky you are I would just go with any name brand with the best price that doesn't get completely slammed in the reviews.

No expertise on Smart TV, but one minor point is that if you pay for Amazon Prime, you get access to a sh1tload of video content, so that may be worth factoring in.
However, it seems like the smart TV functions can be handled by something less permanent than a TV- think Apple TV, the Google dongle, etc.

However, I can provide one limited data point on Samsung TV's. We got a 42" DLP (I don't even think DLP is a thing anymore) in 2005(!), and it's still going strong. I replaced a $40 color wheel in it about 5 years ago and other than that trouble free.
My folks had one that was one year older than ours and that still works too.

If/when ours ever dies, I'll replace it with whatever Samsung is in our price range in the 46-50" size without a second thought.

1080p is absolutely necessary. Smart TV functions are not necessary. You'd like a higher refresh rate than the 60/120hz of the Samsung you listed, but you pretty much have to pay extra for a smart tv to get the higher refresh rate.

That Samsung model will be fine.

Are we related. We have the slightly larger DLP. GREAT for sports but the tuner not so hot.

Stu we have had excellent luck with Samsung.

You have no need to pay extra for smart TV functions you have cable and internet and an HDMI cable yah?

    We're known for our tents.

Good choice on the TV. I love my Samsung, but never ever ever use the Smart TV features. Just hook it to a cable box and Roku and it's wonderful.

FWIIW my solution to AppleTV not having Amazon is to have a second ROKU device.

I bought that TV a couple weeks ago for about $50 more at Best Buy. It's very easy to set up and I was surprised at the quality of the wi fi. Only wire to it is power.
