Deadly Fire in Arizona
Garro - I can't find the thread where you talked about smoke jumping and hotshotting, but that fire in Yarnell AZ sounds absolutely wicked. The news article says that Arizona had a total of 21 fatalities since 1955 and in one day they lost 19 firefighters. I've been in that area and remember it as dry even in good years and full of rocks. Beautiful but I cannot imagine what a fire must be like there. Hard to say anything material about it, except that I wish the best for all the families.

Re: Deadly Fire in Arizona
Being in a country that has massive bush fire quite regularily this news really feels close to home. Just about everybody in the last day or so has been touched by the loss of these guys. Heart breaking.

Re: Deadly Fire in Arizona
Garro was the first person I thought of when I heard about this as he's the closest I come to knowing a smokejumper.
The words to the folk song "Cold Missouri Waters" have been in my head ever since I heard about it. It is a horrible tragedy. I can't imagine how hard those fire fighters work to keep people safe and how willingly they do it even knowing what could happen.

Re: Deadly Fire in Arizona
I'll talk about it more later with links to donation and a big ass rant.
I was in a bar in WI with my nephew tending when someone told me and I almost puked.
I turned the same dirt as those guys, I did lots of work with the Prescott shots when I was on Mormon Lake shots.
I gotta go out on my 1st ride in three weeks - man, AZ is just sickened.
I got burned over twice.
Godspeed, Brothers & thanks for your service - you will not be forgotten.
Man..........choking up here.
- Garro.

Re: Deadly Fire in Arizona
I still can't even type about it, but dig deep and donate here: Wildland Firefighter Foundation - HOME
We are all just sick about it, just sick.
I got on the trail, and I run into my firefighter gal friend who went to high school with a bunch of those guys.
All we have right now is "Why" "How" and "Where do we send money"
Prescott is crushed.
It is just beyond scale and precedence.
I'll pull it together tomorrow & discuss what I have gleaned from those in the overhead.
Thanks for all the well wishing - help if you can, especially those of us in the intermountain west - we are all in the way of fire.
- Garro.

Re: Deadly Fire in Arizona
I found the Wildland Firefighters Foundation last night and made a donation. Later I saw a link to the Prescott Firefighter's Charities.
Firefighter's Charities Helps Granite Mountain Hotshots Families : You Can Too
The Prescott link has paypal as an option if that is more convenient for anyone.
Can't stop thinking about those guys and their families.
