Was/is there such a chainstay?
Ok, so maybe I just imagined this, but a few years ago I seem to remember some talk of a oval chainstay with a funky bend that was designed to give you more tire clearance when using a lugged BB.
Ring any bells?

I can't find the thread, but I import and sell bent PegoRichie chain
