No snow in Lake Tahoe....glad to hear it!
I'm getting on a plane to go to Northern California with 3 friends from different corners of the country. We were planning on snowboarding at Squaw Valley or Heavenly for the long weekend. I could take or leave snow sports but my friends love them. I got vetoed this year. No snow and 60 degree weather in Tahoe have made us change plans and the plans now include cycling.
I now get to ride a Sycip cross bike around Marin County for a few days and am thrilled at the thought. Two of us are rabid cyclists and the other two can play x-box and wait for us to get back from the ride.
Are the "Seven Bitches" what we need to do?

I'm sure others will chime in (what do I know, I live in the East Bay) but Alpine Lake/Seven Bitches is a good start. Also down to Stinson, up to Pt Reyes Station, to the Marshall Wall if you are ambitious. Loads to do. Marin County Bicycle Coalition has a nice map. Also: stop at the stop signs. Marin po-pos love giving cyclists tickets.

Corn snow in Feb with California snow bunnies on the slopes. I think the bicycle can wait.

There's snow up there, but it's old. We need a few more good storms to come through.

I was out there a few years ago at the Nordic JOs and it was f-ing hot, like 65 degrees. Poor kids that had trained in the cold were just about killing themselves. Anyway, I was worried about the snow and my brother's kid said not to worry, the porch we were standing on looking at snow up to the deck level was, in fact, about 20 feet off the ground.
Alpine Meadows may be the perfect ski area, in my opinion. Perfect combo of terrain, snow, focus and any place where the signs say 'if you see ordnance that looks like this don't pick it up' is kinda cool.
