    Default California Hourly Wage Laws?

OK, really odd question, but it bugged me all day at work today and I can't seem to find a definitive answer by googling.

Say I work at an hourly rate here in California. If I work 15minutes of an hour in addition to my regular hours, is it mandatory that I'm paid for that 15minutes? 30minutes?

In general you should get time and a half for time over 8 hours a day and/or 40 hours a week.

Yeah but his question is when does 1.5x kick in? What if you work an extra 10 min? 15min? 30min? 45min?

Our "time clock" (its software) is set to 1/4 hour increments. We're not allowed overtime so I've never tested it but my thought would be if you make $10/hr and work an extra 15 min you get $3.75 and not $2.50 for that 15 min.

That's what I thought as well.

Apparently when my boss totals my hours, he rounds down from 30minutes to the nearest hour...looks like I'm going to need to have a talk.

Some degree of rounding is permitted but probably not if it's all rounding down, and it's in small increments. Always rounding down 1/2 hour? Sounds not OK.

    ridiculous imo
this is what calculators and computers are for

atypical maybe, but have always been paid to the hundredth of an hour when on the clock
and round up a penny when in doubt

    roughly:

How do you keep track of your hours? Do you record them in 10 or 15 minute intervals? I don't believe that employers are allowed to 'round down' but must pay you for your actual recorded time.

The hourly "hundredths" chart above is pretty much the standard way to record time manually.
