    Default Handbag for my wife

My wife has had two nice bags stolen in the past eight months. To replace the most recent theft she wants something not so flashy, but still quality and fashionable. She early 30s and with our two young daughters the tote style bags work. She had a LV "Neverfull" the shape of which she liked, but this time around she wants sturdy leather instead of canvas and no easily identifiable logos.

Anyone have a bag-ista in their life that might have a suggestion?

Sorry to hear that her bags got stolen. Im always on my wifes case about how she needs to be alert. Always carry her bag and not place it in a shopping cart. But my wife is all about Tori Burch. Quality leather and come in all shapes and sizes. Marc Jacobs also. Both are reasonable when it comes to the price. She even has my sold in the game of nice bags. Can't complain though I do splurge on cycling stuff all the time.

I know nothing about bags, but I do live in Greenwich and know they are expensive as could be. Maybe get something custom, well made and no logos from a leatherman.

You'd be wise to steer clear of handbags and shoes. Every woman has her own ideas of what is useful and attractive. These rules are not based on things like logic or reason.

You know how they say women are like snowflakes; each one individual and unique. I'm reasonably certain they're talking about the tastes in shoes and purses.

I ventured into the mysterious world of handbags as gifts and lived to tell about it. Went with Dooney & Burke. Good quality, mid priced and not so common as a Coach. My girl gets compliments on it all the time and has been carrying it for the past three years (it's her late spring, summer, early fall bag).

I'm one of those people who keep an eye on the NYTs second page "just in case" Queen decides it's time for a new purchase thus I "appear" to be informed and (cough) care about these things ;) Kidding sort of but you know what I mean. Boring but reliable and wonderful customer service are things that happen at the Coach store.

Dangerous territory as I learned when shoping for a bag for my wife for the holidays. Got her to commit to the type of bag (she wanted something refered to as a "hobo" style) and then it is just a question of how much I was willing to pay. Can easily be a few hundred or a few thousand.

So true. My wife has a couple coach bags that she uses for every day purses. They take a beating. The coach store has always taken care of us with repairs or replacements. Great customer service.

I really like what pal Emil is doing and his stuff will last and last. I think most of his leather is from Horween. Give him a call and chat him up, he's a great guy. If you're around Nashville at all go visit his shop if you can.

My wife is a big fan of Kate Spade purses. Seem to be well made and she loves all the bright colors. They're always having decent sales online too.

Best handbags you've never heard of, still family owned and operated: Suarez. The finest handbags, belts, and accessories in a variety of luxurious leathers and exotic skins. | SuarezNY.com

The website doesn't do the handbags justice. The feel of the leather and quality of the stitching & lining sells the bags. Suarez' Classic Tote is about 100x more stylish (& functional) than bags 6x the price with all sorts of metal Kardashian crap hanging all over them.

You'll just have to come to NYC to check them out.

some women would equate owning a coach or kate spade bag to owning a surly. fully functional, but certainly not a Zank or Sachs.

+1 for Coach...Marc Jacobs has a few nice satchel bags that are understated. I have bags from Saddleback and Belstaff, but those bags posted by cody.wms look mighty fine!

Truly. I found those Suarez bags, and for that, I earned many many points. Bags are a serious business.

Mulberry bags are the way to go. Over the years bought my wife four or five and still going strong, a good British company.

Yes I am. With all the knock-offs out there and every fashionista wannabe carrying an "LV" bag, Jen won't even look at them. She doesn't go for the, hey look at me graphics. Plus she would rather have a new set of wheels (or a cross bike, and a mtn bike, and a city bike...)
