Default Talk to me about summer

It's 95 degrees today... it's only going to get hotter.

How do you deal with summer?

I watch what the cows do. Get my milking done early then lay around in the shade.

I ride about half as much in the summer as I do in the winter. I also fantasize about moving to Iceland all summer.

I lived in Sacramento for 15+ years. 95 is not hot.

errr, guess I should have been more specific.

Riding in (not) hot weather doesn't bug me at all. That's fine. I'd rather it be 100 deg than 40 deg.

It's the not riding in hot weather that bothers me. Being, ya know, dressed like a normal person.
Anyone else feel silly in shorts or flip flops? Is it possible to look like anything but a kid at summer camp?

How do you beat the heat when not in lycra?

A kilt. And Wool. I know it sounds wacky, but Merino wool underclothes are the cat's ass. Smartwool socks are in full effect all year 'round. Plus, when I'm not riding I like to stay inside and work on my gamer's tan.

    Natual fibers. Light, looser clothing.

Repeat after me. Cotton. Linen. Chambray. Say it. Its fun. "Shaaaam-braaaaaay."

Tight or synthetic clothing is your enemy in extreme heat. Skip the fitted tee and wear a looser button-up. Leave a few extra buttons open so your skin can breathe. Convince yourself this looks boho and arty. Hell, its 100-friggin'-degrees. Who cares how you look?

If you must suit up, get yourself a cotton or linen suit. Sockless is appropriate here too. They all do it over there in italy. Let your ankles breathe. Wear some canvas sneakers like keds or Adidas Rod Lavers. Or boat shoes or something. Hell, wear your dress shoes, bucs, whatevs. But try out the no-sock look. Do a google search for mens moc-socks or no-show socks. Do not- I repeat DO NOT- go sockless entirely. Shoes will get funky quick, and getting the stink out is a bitch once its in.

Get some shorts with a decent cut, not cargo khakis that go past your knees. Outlier is popular around here. Also check some of the cuts in the "Your Shorts are Invalid"thread. Show off those legs. If you're going to wear pants, wear natural fibers. If you can rock leg hair, do it. It may look doofy on the bike, but your leg hair keeps your pants from smothering your skin, causing you to sweat.

Skip deodorant or anything else that smothers the skin and lightly powder. Shower more. Cool showers are the best.

Allow yourself time to acclimate. Don't shower and run out of the house. You want to start completely dry if at all possible. Put a cotton handkerchief in your pocket and use it to dab sweat whenever necessary.

when i used to live down south
we'd wet down the fitted sheet before bed, crank the ceiling fan, and try not to move too much when it was really gnarly out

    IDK;

I dress in shorts and flip-flops almost year round.
At least 9 months out of the year. The other 3, I break out the jeans a t-shirts!

That's just the way I roll!

any other brand recommendations? Outlier is a bit pricey. I like Bonobos, but struggle to find anything alternatives.
