    Default Barcode question

I'm looking at having a product tag made to stick on various projects that I send out the door as well as bikes.
I have the option to include a barcode on them that matches the serial number on each.
The choice is '3 of 9' or '128', I'm pretty sure theres an app available to track all this on my phone.

Does anyone here have any input to which might be more appropriate than the other for simple tracking of product?

    thanks, jake

What are these tags made of? Are they paper hang tags, or decals, or what? Since the code would need to be generated separately for each project, (as each serial number would be different) the ability to print your own code on each tag at the time of project completion becomes necessary. There are multiple apps for Android and iOS that create and read standard barcodes and the new QR codes. So maybe a blank spot on the tag where you can generate a code for the product on your phone, bluetooth it to your printer and print the tag?

The tags (aluminum sticker) are sequentially numbered with digits as well as barcoded to match the number on each one.

I was thinking (possibly overthinking) that when you apply the sticker you scan the code and apply it to the file that you have on the project.

Later on, if needed a scan of the number brings up all the info related to the sticker.

Even if it's not used initilally it might come in handy later plus it looks cool.

I just didn''t realilze there was more than one type of code.

Ok, I get it now. That's a cool idea, you'd need some sort of database that matches the number to all the info you have for that project. Databases not being my thing, I can't offer much advise there. I think you could probably do it with nothing more than a spreadsheet, and I"m sure you could have custom software built if you felt spendy.
This is a QR code, by the way:
