Is there any prohibition against wearing a Bow Tie to a Saturday afternoon funeral?

Bow ties separate you from the rest of the men in formal dress. They are a sign for your individualism which is a good thing. However, my personal take is that funerals one should suppress that individual flair. No, there is no prohibition (at least I dont think so, I have not checked Emily Post) but a dark necktie I feel would be a better choice.

This. If you are under 30 there might be some leeway. Generally if you have to ask about a bow tie, don't.

Do you normally wear bowties? If no, then no. The last thing you want to do is give cause for people to make assumptions as to why, or redirect thought and conversation toward yourself.

Unless the person who passed was known for it, and you're doing it in their honor, then wait for the next formal event to break out the bowtie.

yes, I wear a bow once or twice per week.

The old lady who died was my wife's grand mother. She was a larger than life local democratic politician who wouldn't be caught dead at a grand occasion without a flamboyant hat to draw attention. It turns out that all of the women in the family wore flamboyant hats in honor and the service was in an african american church with a sermon and gospel delivered by a full choir and the faith that only comes from the gut. Frankly I was the only white guy who was not under dressed and the bow was perfect.

I've got a pretty rad funeral planned (more like a party for my friends); but I'd better be rich enough to stipulate that directions must be folloed to a t if anyone is going to get my money.

New Orleans second line jazz parade, horse drawn carriage, sing along (thinking "Everybody Hurts" or "Do you Realize?"), pushed into the Mississippi on a raft set ablaze (to Van Halen's "Running with the Devil"), then an open bar.

A bow tie is perfectly acceptable...
as long as it will be worn with a lime green polyester leisure suit.

Seriously, a bow is excellent IF you can pull it
off, but that's a tough one, even for James Bond.
