Default Campy Elec. & full cassette sweep feature

Ok, so I am a devout Shimanoite but I have a question for the group: does anyone here routinely shift the span of their cassette rapidly? I honestly don't know that I have ever done that on the road; it is portrayed as a feature on the Campy Elec groups and I just don't get it.. Other than in a workstand I am struggling to see any value; ironically with electric even this is of minimal value as once adusted it stays adjusted, at least with Di2.. Enlighten me please.

IMHO, the longer the button is held the more it will shift feature is going to lead to some missed shifts, esp in winter gloves.

Not trying to initiate another Campy v. Shimano thing! I think it is great that Campy has closed-in to within 4 years of Shimano..

I rarely shift more than one or two cogs at a time. I guess I'd rather have the option than not have it though. It'll be interesting to read some more on-the-road reports of the stuff.

I do it all the time. Not the whole cassette, but multiple gears at once. Usually either in certain sprint situations, or at the beginning of a descent after a big climb. I have run strictly Campy since 1995 or so, so it is second nature to me. Not sure it is necessary, but I would probably miss it if I didn't have the option.

Even with mechanical Campy (ultra-shift), you can shift several gears (up 3 or down 5) at once depending on the length of the throw. I find this very useful and definitely miss it when I ride a bike with a Shimano drivetrain (when I use it, I usually only shift 2 or 3 gears, but occasionally being able to dump 5 gears is useful, say at a stop at the bottom of a hill when your last gear was a much bigger gear). Of course it takes some finesse, but like anything that is more refined it takes a little getting used to. It sounds as if the electronic version replaces time for length of throw.

Maybe if you're really fast in CX in a situation where you're coming off a steep climb and turning around to descend the same steep pitch on a bike with a single ring. :)

I use it all the time here in Okinawa...we have long stretches of road with short, steep 'bergs' that are just too tall to power over. I spend alot of time grabbing and dumping gears. The reason I probably won't go electric is because I'm used to the instantaneous dump and I don't feel like waiting 1.5 seconds.

    I know, WPP.

If you can afford E-Super Record on your winter bike, no one is gonna shed any tears if you miss a shift every once in a while!

The electronic shifting is going to be necessary for the driveshaft and transmission equiped bikes. Just a thought....

i was driving a chevrolet orlando recently. good brakes but it kept telling me to change gear. saabs from the 70s were better at predicting the future.
