    Default 2011 Columbus stuff

Just came across the 2011 catalog. 2 versions of Max, SL Niobium and they're bringing back Cromor... neat!

    Columbus Tubi

Interesting how Zona is labeled as Nivacrom alloy but under the fine print it says it's CroMo...

Nice. A Road OS SPX revival would be sweet, but short of that cromor will work. I wonder if Nova will be selling it?

Joe B was telling me yesterday about XCR for lugs, which I see is in there as well....that's cool. Hopefully availability of some of this stuff will be better going forward.

the 29er offerings are pretty thin.....and I mean the walls. ?????? What would make them think the same walls spec'ed for road bikes {7/4/7} will hold up for a 29er? And I hope the CS spec is wrong - 24mm x .8mm? must be a typo. With proper design Columbus could be ruling the 29er scene as per tubing. AArrrGGgghHHhgghhh........ - Garro.

Remember when it seemed like the whole catalog was nothing but aluminum, then carbon? It's great to see all the steel again.

I really think that Mauro is open to feedback. It couldn't hurt to send him an email.

I have to wonder if it's because of Dedacciai's offerings?

24 mm round sounds pretty stout. Is it the reduced clearances or wall thickness that you don't like?

Mauro is definitely open to feedback. He's a great guy and I've known him when he was still building frames with his dad.

Also, Fabrizio is good to talk to if you get a chance. It does seem to take a while but they do listen.

I wondered about the tubes that Joe B has listed as their 29er tubeset. 7/5/7 for a down tube makes me nervous. I am also tempted to build myself one and see how long it lasts.

time for the Garroisimo 29er MTB tube set, produced by Columbus

Columbus is a good mob, it just takes time

how about this Galddies, 460mm length .8 30 x 16 12.5 tip chainstays for randos and light tourers! I got em coming!
and maybe even 480mm .9 CS for touring bikes

It took a while but OS XCr and XL XCr for lugs is coming, however supply of the raw material is the big bottle neck. If Columbus could get tonnage of the XCr raw material we would be swimming in it.

And those chainstays are ROUND? I can't imagine trying to get tire and chainring clearance with round stays. Steve, call 'em and talk some sense.

Those stays are 30x16 oval. I used them on a single speed for myself. Good clearance. No problem using a 2.2 Nevegal and an Eno crank with its low Q.

Ah, that's good. The drawing in the catalog shows a 24mm round end and a very wide cross section, I guess the art guys need to lay off the wine.

Curious about the new max set in the catalog - I was under the impression that the new stuff was based on life tubes (6-4-6 wall)? The catalog specs look to be the same as the original max tubes. Is it just the alloy that's changed?

    According to Ceeway, there's also a 35mm x 8/5/8:
    29er Down Tubes Now Available
    In Zona Nivacrom.

    35 x 0.8/0.5/0.8 x 750mm
    38 x 0.7/0.5/0.7 x 750mm
    42 x 0.7/0.5/0.7 x 735mm
But I agree it would be nice to have the 38mm or 42mm in 9/6/9...
