I'm a novice beer drinker, always hated the stuff til I had some Belgian and Belgian Style ones! :beerglass:
I just tried the Ommegang Abbey and it tastes like someone poured some soy sauce in it! Does that mean it's gone bad (does beer go bad??) or is that just how it is? Or do I still need to detox from my Chinese dinner last night?

Ommegang Abbey is really malty, so if you don't like that it may taste a little strange. It shouldn't taste salty, though...

Upon the recommendation of a forum beer lover, I had some Piraat Ale the other night - it is a very good beer. I should like to try several of them in a row sometime soon.

Do that and you may wind up in a coma. Try Lucifer imho. My brother and I downed some last Easter.

I'll look for that. My local packie has a good (not great) selection of euro-beer.

Yes, this is the good stuff. It seems this thread, discussing such an important topic needs to get restarted. Leave others to debate the futures or merits of this or that part or brand, I want to discuss Great Belgian Beers.

Add to those some new found favorites of mine.

Leffe Brown Ale, the blond is easy to come by but the Brown is very rare get your beer distributor to find it for you. It will be worth the extra work. If I could have only one beer, it would be this or the Corsendonk

Saison Dupont-This is Dupont's Farmhouse Ale, blonde in color but rich and flavorful. A perfect beer for drinking ALL DAY
Corsendonk Abbey Brown, the blonde is good too but this is exquisite, reasonably priced and one of several I am putting up to age.
Scaldis - this is in an odd class. It is very potent, I cannot describe it be making a comprison to any other and at 12%, be careful, perhaps it is the Chianti Classico of Belgian Beer???

Does anyone else put up bottle finished beers to age? This is new for me, but I was just turned on to a 10 year old German Double Bok that was out of this world.

This thread is making me thirsty (see kramer's pretzel commercial). Going to buy some belgium brew tonight for sure.

I have had the pleasure of drinking a lot of these over the last few months. It is hands down the best American made Belgian beer that I have ever enjoyed!

Ahh Delirium... great beer or greatest beer?

Leffe Blond is my go-to easy sippin' beer.

I've actually been drinking a lot of US-brewed Belgian-style beers. Deschutes "The Stoic", Allagash White and Fluxus...

God, I love Belgian beer. Achel is a true trappist product and an outstanding beer. I drink it every chance I get. :)

I would drink Delirium Noel instead of water, if I could.

Maredsous blonde is also a favorite.

mmm... La Chouffe. I drank a bunch of that in Amsterdam. There was a great little bar with a cool jukebox down the street from the apartment that we rented. Tasty on tap.

HOW could I forget Orval?! If I could only drink one beer for the rest of my life, that would be it.

The bar was not in Ceintuurbaan neighborhood of Amsterdam? I drink my weight in La Chouffe in a dive with peanut shells on the floor by my apartment in the Ceintuurbaan when I lived there in '01-02. Agreed tasty on tap but pretty damn good in the big bottle.
