I'll add my appreciation to the respectful and thoughtful responses in this thread. Thank you for that.

But I'll also add that the irony of discussing equity, as it pertains to the age-graded masters' track cycling world championships, is not lost on me.

I’m still of the mindset that we should eliminate the “men” category of racing and just label it “Open.” Any gender/sex/etc should be able to race in this category. Then have the separate women’s category specifically for biological females.

The concept of age groups is stupid anyway, especially the concept of age group world championships.

Maybe five years from now, it will be motor assisted, and everyone else. Motors will provide everyone with the same wattage, and we can stop worrying about doping and testosterone variance and the rest. Basically motorcycles you pedal.

Then it will be truly fair, as my fat ass (on account of reduced testosterone that comes with children and aging) will be able to keep up with riders with superior genetics and better life choices. Maybe I’ll enter the motorized 47-47.5 year-old flying 200 meter sprint with the other 4 folks with enough money to travel overseas. Wait, what about the unfair financial advantages?

Damn. My plan is falling apart.

There's just not enough athletes in those categories. But as others have mentioned the idea of a 35-39yr old world champion that beat 5 people is completely stupid anyways.

Why do people feel the need to list all of their bikes in their signature?
