"As an homage to the EPOdays of yore- I'd find the world's last remaining pair of 40cm ergonomic drop bars.....i think everyone who ever liked those handlebars in that shape and in that width is either dead of a drug overdose, works in the Schaerbeek mattress factory now and weighs 300 pounds or is Dr. Davey Bruylandts...who for all I know is doing both of those things." - Jerk
Drove my buddy's 1989 3.2L carrera. While you can measure the 30 years progress made from this car to mine it is such a joy to drive ! 273K km on it and pretty much perfect shape.

that is quite frankly THE 911 to own i think. they're just modern enough to be reliable daily drivers- quick enough to be able to put you in jail but not so quick that you can't actually get anywhere near where the fun starts. the 3.2 engine is a peach too.
maybe i should find myself an aircooled 911 while you can still kinda sorta afford one. i can't believe that things like a clubsport or a RS America used to actually be $20,000 used cars.
if anyone wants to trade the world's best Shelby GT500 for the world's worst air cooled 911, I'm game.
No assisted direction and no AC makes it hard to get as a DD
No power steering makes for super fun feedback thru corners. Yeah thats a great car.

As I am only a recent inhabitant, I am not sure if this is Quebecois self-deprecation or humility or just narcissism.
Nice car though...even if it is wasted in rush hour traffic.

Anyone ever buy a car remotely and use an inspection service like Aim Certify or Automobile Inspections? Kiddo has a thing for Datsun 510s and we've found one that has been garaged and essentially not driven for 20 years after having been mod'd by the founders of BRE Racing back in the day. Owner (son of deceased father) says he's gone through it and got it back to running.
Obviously its not like buying a 2012 toyota and before investing time and money in airplane tickets etc. we're seeking to get more detailed evaluation. Any and all recommendations for inspector would be much appreciated!
Only because this was odd to me on a number of levels. November 2. Williamsburg Brooklyn.

Fall is the best time of year to surf in NY/NJ.
Just this morning I was trying to remember if my wetsuit is somewhere in my house, or at my folks' in NJ, to make sure I have it for Thanksgiving.
PS- 911's are my favorite, esp with the whale tail and that script along the door bottom.
Needs a targa top though.

nah- i never use my air conditioning as i HATE air conditioning and older 911s are really light and have very little weight over their front wheels. modern cars are great- they are- and sometimes i do wonder how i commuted almost 100 miles a day in a 1984 GTI that was prepped for ice racing in the late 1990s- but i'd give my eye teeth to have an air-cooled 911.
i think my budget means that any 911 for me will be a 996. yup- it's got the ugly soggy eggs boxster head lights- and an IMS bearing that is a ticking time bomb- but it's a 911 and if i button it up with some suspension mods, do the headers and exhaust, put some new seats in it, and fix how it looks with some RUF wheels and body kit stuff....then i'l.....
HAVE SPENT ENOUGH MONEY THAT I JUST SHOULD HAVE WAITED AND BOUGHT THE 911 I ACTUALLY WANT.
I have a $20,000 car that literally cost me over $50,000 to get where it's at and it's still worth 20k. i shouldn't do the same thing with a 911. i see why people just buy or lease new 911s and maybe upgrade a few things like the color or the sport package stuff or a DSG transmission..
actually given the shop- I should find a manual Cayenne GTS. They do exist and they are really fucking cool.
For me, a 911 is a car to have when you don't need a car. Keep expectations in the fun place. I'm pretty much there in terms of not needing a car, but I have an old stinky truck instead of an old noisy 911 .

In the meantime Houston shot that cool pic yesterday. Water cooled, turbos and AC. Seasucker FTW.

The graphics package has a different connotation in 2018...
I love absolutely everything about it.
