    Here's some grist for the "Why don't you just apply the laws on the books" mill. Well, for starters, the regulatory agency for gun dealers fears political and public blowback for, yanno, enforcing the laws on the books:

    Well wouldn't that nullify any new laws as well? Not to mention that solidifies the point being made.

    Yeah, we should definitely design laws based on if we think everyone will enforce them... What it solidifies is that the ATF needs a shakeup to have people with more integrity.

    I dunno, that assault rifle ban seemed to work pretty well, even with ATF's lack of gumption.

    It shows there's a bloc out there actively looking to subvert the laws on the books through political and public pressure, which leads to people dying. Not sure that's a "welp, let's just stop making laws" argument.
