I can recall tens, if not a hundred, instances where too-light equipment failed a rider and cost them a nice ride, a finish, a placing, or some flesh and bone.

I cannot recall a single instance where a rider bested me because their wheels were lighter.

Lilacs should be pruned aggressively in the early winter, by digging them out of the friggin ground and tossing them onto a flaming pile of brush. Achoo.

My favorite sources are in print: Chilton, Haynes, Park, Musson, Zinn. I browse them with coffee on weekend mornings. I need more.

I'm in the process of constructing a vise stand by using a old cast iron machine tool base that will hold a large vise. My question is what's the latest and greatest for attaching the base to my concrete garage floor? In the past I've used hex head sleeve anchors. Is this still the good stuff?

Drill oversized holes in the concrete and epoxy in anchor bolts with Hilti HY-200 adhesive.

That's some pro-level stuff, but I'd hammer drill the right-sized hole and use expanding anchors and 3/8-16 bolts. That way if you eventually move the vise you won't have to cut off the bolts.

Also good advice and what I'll end up doing 'cause when I left the no-Goggle zone to discover that stuff would cost me $50 a hole!!!

This falls in the category of grumps...the hardware which is easily available to me at Homeless Depot is junk. It's a shame us city people have no other place to turn than mail order. I'm done now.

As long as we are talking heavy metal. Metallica or Black Sabbath?

Black Sabbath. If they did no other one than War Pigs they'd still be the ones.

I use Fischer adhesive anchors a lot. fischerfixingsusa.com: Chemical fixings

I do not know what they cost in the USA but in the UK they work out at only a couple of pounds a fixing, depending on the size obviously. It is important to clean as much dust as possible out of the hole first before injecting the adhesive. You need to plan everything so that you can work quickly once you have started injecting the mixture but these anchors are strong and less likely to cause cracks in the substrate or work loose than expanding bolts. In the UK some Fischer adhesives are available in small size packs to use with a standard sealant gun so you do not have to use a special injection tool.

Thanks Paul. Once I'm free of the search engine black out I'll investigate.
