I'm just going to brag on my kids a little. Forgive me. It's been a big couple of weeks.
Two weeks ago this kid got her Harvard degree in government with a public health minor, with honors in her field. She did original thesis research in Cape Town on how women self-assess HIV risk. She's got a health care and telecommunications consulting gig in Boston lined up for the fall. Definitely the gunner in the family but also a super kid.
Last weekend this kid graduated from Eagle Hill School, gave the commencement address (which in my unbiased opinion was excellent), and won class awards for languages, character, and community spirit. He's going to Colby next year, and I think he'll be really happy there.
The other tall kid has a year to go.
Anyone who knows me, and especially anyone who knew me in my earlier years, knows this was a longshot outcome. I'm super proud of all three of them and grateful to their mom and the rest of my family for pulling together.
This weekend also promises to be great as it's my girlfriend's 25th Williams College reunion, and there were a lot of people in her class that worked in the local outdoor store/bike shop with me or rode bikes with us. I'm looking forward to seeing them and we have a town/gown ride scheduled for Saturday morning.
Great stuff Lumpy!!
Congrats Lumpy! A twofer! You should be very proud.
Four weeks ago for me:

She had a second interview yesterday and, with a little luck, she'll be gainfully employed by the time she moves to DC in a few weeks.
GO!
I can't embed from my phone and may not be at a computer for a few days, but here you go...
Not nearly as fabulous as the great baby and graduation news as mine isn't as much celebratory as a great relief.
Accepted an offer on my house in Long Island and didn't lose too much money (which is remarkable given the still obvious hurricane damage in the neighborhood 3 years later). The best part is that I get to move back into the city of my birth and whole adult life and where I brought up my daughter.
The second of my grumps can suck it of the day (against the advice of my real estate broker who said wait until the buyer has the mortgage approved) is I found and rented an apartment 10 blocks from my daughter. And the building doesn't have a bike room but they agreed to give me a storage room downstairs with a locked door that is not used by anyone else. The only bad part is it is significantly more money per month than I would have been spending if I hadn't sold my apartment five years ago but given that I sold my albatross I am good with that. And it is on Second so a bit sketchy riding to the best routes (the two apartments I was considering on the West Side right on the Hudson River pathway were stupid expensive or didn't have a bagel place or bodega nearby). But as Jorn (j44ke) said, you just go across the park and you are there. And I am just so excited to be going home.

Hard to top a new baby. Congrats Matt. 16 year old grandson is spending a few weeks with us. Great kid. We took in a Rays game vs. Astros last night. Fun time.

I've ridden a decent amount so far. The rides are shorter, slower, and definitely not what I'm used to, but I'm hopeful we'll find a routine that let's me keep at it regularly. My wife and I both know it's good for the whole family to have me riding.
My anti-grump today is that the baby is just over a week old and we've managed to keep him clean, fed, and healthy. I'm pretty proud of us.

On other side of the coin, I am getting prepared for my son's high school graduation.
Off to college on August 18th.

went to the eye doc yesterday. Other than cataracts continuing to progress, everything is the same, even my prescription. That was good news for once.
i've discovered a muscle imbalance/tightness that's apparently been pulling my kneecaps waaayyy out to the sides and causing a tracking issue, and i discovered it before anything started hurting.
after a 125mi ride tomorrow i think i might have to replace any riding/running with foam rolling sessions for fear i end up like my dad and need knee replacements by the time i'm 50. but i'm okay with that, because i'm still in the i-can-get-this-back-to-good-with-no-long-term-danger zone.
