Internet terms "fail" and "facepalm" and the people who are so eager to use them that they do so in virtually any instance, whether it's appropriate or not. I think that these might already be on the way out of popular usage and if so, good riddance. The term "sheeple" also bugs me. As if the people who use it aren't also sheep.

Oh yeah, not having a job makes me grumpy but job searching might make me even grumpier.

For the last few weeks my average work day starts around 6am and ends around 7pm, where I then get to spend an hour in traffic because people in Miami can't drive if the sun goes down. I'm finally at my limit and have a splitting headache all day. Add to that my shoulder still hurts and I feel like my recovery has stalled for a few weeks. It's all just bringing me down.

I'm also grumpy that the bike commutes all week have been in the midst of steady twenty degree 30+ mph winds coming out of the mountains. If I wanted to move to Nebraska I'd have moved to Nebraska.

New house:

- great structure and new roof, so that's good
- oil heat is sucking money right out of my pocket
- washing machine is DOA. Got one use before it broke
- dishwasher is DOA too. Passed inspection because it runs, but it doesn't clean dirty dishes
- shoveled 3/4 of the driveway and then the plow guy came
- every room needs some sort of work, from painting to removing wallpaper and then painting, so we can't effectively unpack and feel settled in any of the rooms knowing we'll need to pack up and move things to do the work
- working from home has meant zero "commute" miles, and thus zero bicycle miles in the last 3 weeks

Science deniers in general piss me off. Especially the hippy ones who hate vaccines and modern medicine. Go on and on about how living on nuts and berries and regular wheatgrass enemas will keep you from getting cancer. They spread that shit around and keep people from getting regular cancer screenings and you don't find out until it's too late to fix. They'll happily accept all the technology that allows them to drive their Priuses and take iPhone pics of their pompous vegan meals and share them on Instagram, but the same technology that allows all that is also what keeps your kids from spreading disease to all the other kids at their fucking kids yoga class.
Add to that that I pulled a calf muscle a couple of weeks ago, and it's hovering around 90% healed. Just enough for me to think it's better and tweak it again. My girlfriend wants me to do a 6hr mtb race with her this weekend. I am hoping it's too cold for her.

I stopped by work to pick up my check and my rear brake was stolen by one of the many tweaker low-lifes that currently infest Market street. Not sure if anyone is familiar with the classic B movie "Street Trash" but at this point I certainly wouldn't mind if a scenario like that played out in SF.

WHERE DO THEY THINK THESE NEW STRAINS CAME FROM? WHERE DO THEY THINK THE ANITBIOTIC-RESISTANT BACTERIA CAME FROM? Grrr. We're surrounded by copious, incontrivable evidence of evolution every day.

I didn't watch the evolution debate that Bill Nye participated in, but I saw that someone asked each of them (Nye and the "Intelligent Design" proponent) what would change their minds. The ID guy said, "Nothing." Nye said, "Evidence."

And don't get me started on the people who think the Bible is a history book that's literally true. Has any one of them actually read it?

Ice storm this week. Trees still down everywhere, so back road Tetris to get to work. Also third day without power. On generator so safe with heat and essentials, but holed up in corner of house. I lack the discipline to set up a few camping lanterns in the basement to hit the trainer, so pissed at myself for sitting on the couch with first races of season 3-4 weeks away.

Walking my very obedient dog in the hood. He has a 100% reliable recall...trust me. A car is careening down the road and turning left onto the street we are walking on. I see that...call the dog...stand on the furthest curb with one hand on the pup...'cause that's the best I can do given their fast approach. Driver takes the corner really fast, gets startled...swerves..recovers...keeps driving.

Now folks, understand that this is a one road in one road out neighborhood. I see red and start running at the MoFo and catch the summofabit who is RUNNING out of their car to hide inside but I yell "I'm mad at you"..."why?" I just stare and they say "oh because I almost ran you and your dog over?" "that scared me".
