I found a nice bowl I want to buy but it's $2000. Bike frame vs. bowl.

Shino, you can make your own bowl. You can't make your own frame.

Put that $2k into an S&P 500 index fund.

Shoot me now, I'm turning into my father.

I've suddenly become a light sleeper. I used to sleep like the dead, straight through all night, but now any largish vehicle passing will wake me. Admittedly I'm near a high traffic intersection, but this wasn't an issue at all until very recently. I haven't changed any habits except working out in the morning and cutting back on caffeine after 2pm.

I hate the mind numbing ass-head-ed-ness of Olympic coverage, especially when it comes to women athletes. Just a quiz - who has more Olympic medals, Vonn or Mancuso? Who has the most Olympic medals in alpine events of any American woman in history, Vonn or Mancuso? Who has more alpine skiing medals of any kind, Shiffrin or Mancuso?

I fucking hope Mancuso rocks Sochi.

Oh what's that? I should have invested a wad of cash I got 8 years ago. It's possible I could resell the bowl at auction for $3500 - $4000 if I didn't like it.

No Hamada Shoji, but Jeff G over at Urban Velo throws some nice pots for a few zeros less.

And I'll add a grump to legit this, I haven't thrown a pot for 20 years.

Don't listen to Saab, or Saab's dad. Buy the damn bowl. Hell, buy two. Buy as many as you can afford, if you can sell them for 4K. With the proceeds, use 50% to buy frames, invest 25%, send 20% to me for my great advice, and the rest goes to Pucci.

I'm a Mancuso fan as well, love her pedigree. The coverage however doesn't detract from the awesomeness of these athletes, not in the least. Vonn is an animal in training and on the hill, nothing less. I saw on older piece on her, probly 2008/9? She was in a squat stance, each foot on it's own slackline, moving what I think was a kettle bell side-to-side. Pretty rugged stuff. I have huge respect for her, the media chin music nonsense is just that. By all accounts - Shiffrin is a killer. It's a pity Vonn is out, as every other competitor's victory will be asterisked by the media dolts, despite it having some merit. The Olympics are only 1 event though, to the public of course the biggest, but the athletes - not so much - on the competition front anyways, sponsorship $$ is another gank story. I regard alpine skiers at this level w/pure awe and respect, if only for the mindset it takes.

Hey his pots are pretty nice. I still throw, but not as much as I would like to. Hamada was my hero as a youth. Mingei WaSabiDou Antiques and Folk Crafts - Search

Ha ha.. buying anything like this to resell is a risk.. so I'd only buy it to have in my house.

Snow. We budget money for new skis, yet every time we get a big dump, by the time we're free to go ski the temp goes north of 50 and it's all gone. Twice this season already.

My alarm set for 5:10AM has failed to wake me up for 7 days now (so I sleep until 7)

I've ran 20 miles this week (yes, this is a grump)

Work project: We already had a tight timeline. They take off my equally-skilled co-worker and replace him with a new guy on the project. I spend a week getting this guy (and a few others) up to speed on what needs done. Just when we figure out how far behind we now are - they want everything done 8 days earlier for an internal sales demo. Now they pull the "you guys need to get this done or you'll be working nights and weekends".
    Auk's words to live by:
Blow up and pin a picture of M. Bartoli on your wall. When you achieve that position, stop. Until then, stretch, ride, stretch, ride, eat less, and ride more.

    Dear Abbey,
We have test rides in the big car park at the back of the shop. Anyway, mum with teenage sons go out for a test on a nice hybrid, I go in to get another bike for mum to try and as I return here is the eldest teenager popping wheelstands and finishing off with a big brake broadslide on MY bike. As I tell him that is a quick way to trash MY bike he proceeds to tell me he is just having a go.
    Am I being too sensitive?

As much as I'm at peace with it overall, letting go of Christianity (or rather the consequences of letting go) has been a bitch. It's hard on my wife and parents, who still believe, and there is a part of me that missed the certainty I used to feel. I think in the long run I'm better off but I hate that along with it comes my loved ones having to bear the pain of believing I'm going to hell. No one is angry or trying to badger me back into "the kingdom", and no one loves me any less, but having believed as they do I know exactly what they feel seeing me walk away. Can't fake it, can't fix them, can't unfuck the situation.

Dude...Find and listen to David Bazan's "Curse Your Branches" in it's entirety. Seriously, the whole album is about what you just wrote.
