Default US flag ties and other items in bad taste

There has been a running theme in my business whereby some pilots feel that wearing ties which depict a US flag demonstrates their love of country and their patriotism. While I don't wish to enter an argument about these demonstrations of patriotism I will say that I find these flag ties to be in bad taste at best and borderline disgraceful. Just out of line and clownish. It went from lapel pins and then the size of the lapel pin and now ties. What's next? Top hats and stilts?

Getting ready for departure and I saw some of these ties and had to comment about wardrobe choices I find odd.

    Any others?

Agreed. What's more, when one is wearing a uniform, as most commercial pilots seem to do, one should be wearing the uniform tie.

Why anyone would do that to their nation's flag and feel like more of a patriot is beyond me. Colors could perhaps be integrated into a person's wardrobe; but flags, no.

Then again, I'm sure my family settled on Memphis so that I could grow up wearing blue and gray, while the rest of the state walked around like bunch of orange-clad clowns.

    Maybe:

Loud theme ties are terrible, even if the theme is as awesome as the US of A.

Agree with OP, by the way. It's the Pontiac Aztek of neckwear.

Same goes for Jerry Garcia ties, Loony Toons ties, Christmas ties that aren't a tartan, and any tie that lights up or plays music.

Tommy Hilfiger ruined it for everyone in the US.

Brazilian women are the only ones to have perfected wearing their nationality in the most creative ways.

2002 World Cup final watching in Frankfurt...went home with a few Brazilian girls dressed only in Brazil flags. Literally wrapped in a flag. Memorable weekend.

Brazilian women get a pass on this and many other things. Some things need to be encouraged.
