Also - How do these bad boys hold up to cyclocross use? Do the hubs basically need a full maintenance cycle (tear down and clean/lube everything) after a race in muddy/wet conditions or are they well sealed enough to take a dozen or so exposures?
The hubs are very well sealed on my experience. If totally submerged or if water is directed at the seals with high pressure I could see how you *might* get water in the bearings, but you would do the same with any commercial bearing used in 'sealed" hubs...The difference is that this is a design that you can clean out. You can always use your grease gun and inject grease into the hubs and flush the old out as well (although this is controversial among some mechanics)

What's the difference between the 2006 Record hubs and Record hubs from 99-2000?

The 2006 hubs have the sexy organic Italian shape as shown in the photos above....The newer hubs are anodised black and have the "tin can with flanges " look originally popularised by the garage machine shop mountain bike part craze of the 90's...and as the newer hub shells are overly fat, they have lost their ability to be injected with grease...although most of the other internals are *similar*....The new hubs still are a quality product-one of the best on the market-but a clear step down from the previous model.

PS...misread the post...Edoz, please change your dates so I don't look dumb....

My wheels using the tin can black version of the Record hubs and black spokes ! They still ride great.

A good looking option for silver today is the WI hubs.

Nice wheels! They look like exact copies of the ones on my Zank! I'll let it go this time....

I guess you also must have good taste!

2007 saw production go to China and the black finish. Functionality isn't worse, but most prefer the aesthetics of the polished hubs. The black hubs still make for excellent wheels.

I still have a while to wait, but I already have my wheels planned out for my RS. The rims are still in bubble-wrap.

I am going to sully this thread with a biased opinion that Shimano 7701 hubs are pretty nice also. No tin can look, high polish, great skewers and that Ti FH body. Nice stuff from that era. No grease port of course, but easy to tear down. Flame away! ;-)

    +1

I have the Nemesis/DA Hub/Pave 27mm setup on whatever my "fast" bike of the moment is - great, bombproof combo, highly recommended. Old Campy Record skewers on mine, '80s vintage.

Oooh. Those black hubs and spokes with the gunmetal Nemesis ... so damn utilitarian looking! I love the silver hubs and all but these look all business. Maybe I need a set of each.

With the demise of the 2006 Record hubs, my choice is the PMPs...Take your pick black or silver.... PMP Hubset

I think the bunions add a certain flair to the overall aesthetic, no?

Yeah nice wheels and it's nice to see someone getting away from silly-spoke wheels but I've seen lots of wheels. That Hampsten frame is a beauty!! Ohh ya. I'd be in the market for a Ti frame if I could just get my better half enthused. I'm working on it.
