Re: 2011 Columbus stuff
Well, like Dazza says, we're 10 years behind you guys, so it will probably be that long before the novelty of Titanium wears off.
Still, the Tephra XCr has been very good for us.
Now all we need is an XCr 29er tubeset!

Geez... that brings up images of Bruce Lee vs Mike Tyson in my head... SPX is the all-rounder but Max, well, he'd better watch his minor axis...

Re: 2011 Columbus stuff
FWIW, I noticed the Cromor tubeset is now available at Nova in both oversize and classic versions... check out new products...

Re: 2011 Columbus stuff
$100 on sale for a seamless tubeset. Nice.

Re: 2011 Columbus stuff
Is there a reason the cromor set is more appealing than the butted 4130 8/5/8 and 9/5/9 sets that nova offers under their own name? Those sets are $30 cheaper than the cromor sale price...
I understand retro fetishism when it comes to the high end stuff (EL OS, MAX, etc), but I can't really get excited about this. Am I missing something?

Nova name brand = China, yes?
I have no idea why non-production frame builders would buy a tubeset based soley on price. Who buys a custom frame and says, "hey man, give me the cheap shit!"

The cheap Nova and Deda stuff is seamed, and cromor isn't.

Although let's not forget some very nice seamed stuff is made by True Temper and KVA! Speaking of KVA they offer straight gauge now, significantly less $$ than the butted stuff:
KVA STAINLESS? - Bicycle Tubing - Stainless Steel Tubing, Bicycle Tubing
Assuming that the Cromor is made in Italy and has the same standards as the Nivacrom stuff I'd happily pay the extra $30. I built my last frame with a Nova DT... worked fine for me but the diameter wasn't quite the same as other DT's and the finish wasn't as nice.

Re: 2011 Columbus stuff
I know this thread is supposed to be about Columbus tubing, but this drifted to tubes for 29ers.
I do not know why people don't use tubes from Tru Temper? They have some great options, long, thick and even heat treated.
31.8mm HAVRDT .9/.6/.9 x 635mm
31.8mm BMXST-DT01 1/.7/.1 x 675mm
34.9mm OX2DT .9/.6/.9 x 670mm
34.9mm BMXST-DT02 1/.7/1 x 735mm
38.1mm HOX2DT01 .9/.6/.9 x 749mm
38.1mm BMXST-DT03 1/.7/1 x 750mm
44.5mm BMXST-DT06 1/.7/.1 x 750mm

I agree.....I've never really understood the fixation some people have with Columbus.... they have offered relatively few tube variations or options.

Agreed, Mike - I'd rather used made in the USA tubing made by TT but I'm kinda scared of the supply chain on it with their bankruptcy - they changed the specs/deleted many offerings {still pretty much OK, there was overlap, for sure} I hope for all of us it continues to be a viable vendor!!! 100% of my bikes have TT tubes in them - Garro.

Re: 2011 Columbus stuff
I hear you. Everytime I start to like a product, they stop making it :(
I wish someone would make thicker chain and sest stays too. Mainly chain stays, oval, s-bend in something thicker than .8mm When you bend and dent these stays for 29ers I am afaid of slpitting the tube or having it crack later.
I can get 22mm round taper stays from True Temper that are 1mm thick and use them for touring bikes, but they don't work so well for 29ers.

Damn, Mike - I'm agreeing with you 1000%. esp on the stays. the "S" bend chainstay they just came out with has a nice shape but THIN. - Garro.

Good to hear! I have a few sets on my shelf and I will be building my first 29er with em next week.... Unbelievably sexy! Although I usually squish, pinch, bend, and modify everything so hopefully I won't have to get all medieval on em to get mad mud clearance and a low Q.
