Default Cable TV - Ahhh buh bye

You see it's not that we can't afford it. We can not afford not to. We'll watch less TV, read more and put the savings into the rainy day fund. Why did I wait so long?

We have one "smart TV" and one with a Roku box that's great works perfect. The SUPERBOWL TV is a gorgeous DLP that was purchased years before things got "smart". Put a Roku box on there and call it good? All I really care about are local HD channels and streaming TDF coverage from a pay-to-play app (they are out there) and a real bonus will be to have DVR. There you have it.

Y'all did abide when we made out recent MacBook purchase so step up to the line I'm expecting pure gold Jerry PURE GOLD ;)

    Thanks, TT

We're slowly working on this, too. Netflix and Huck the dog for entertainment.

Have not had cable TV in years. Probably 5? Without it and with AdBlock Plus on Chrome, about the only advertisements I see are billboards on my drive to work. It's a good life.

    Ditch it man.

Cable/satellite free for more than a year. Don't miss it at all. To paraphrase Pink Floyd "100 channels of shit on the TV to turn to" or, in my case, to not turn to.

We tossed cable over 3 years ago. I thought the then 10-year-old would pitch a fit, but Netflix and Hulu+ have filled the bill nicely, and we also have a digital antenna for the occasional program we want to catch live (like Sunday NFC game). We watch less, on our schedule, and I've never missed it.

Ditched cable 6 months ago and don't miss it one bit. The PBS app for the Roku allows me to see the shows the day after they air.

I need to work something out to get the Winter Olympics. I'm not sure I can handle all the human interest stories on network TV.

Netflix + Hulu + Android tablet + Chromecast = I miss very little.

Cable is a complete waste, both of money and of time and of brain cells. The sooner cable companies die in their tar pits, the better.

i took a baby sidestep just this month and ditched cable for FIOS. will save me just over $700 a year, which is a pretty big score in my book. So far, so good too.

LMAO How do you really feel Steve?

    Yeah I'm feeling better already.

TDF and the old TV let's focus on that. That old DLP rig is sharp we want to keep it.

Phil and Paul can ride off the side of Ventoux for all I care.

Should be able to pull Eurosport/NBC through the Roku to dlp if hdmi or with adapters.

And the figure skating. And the gymnastics.

During the London games I set my computer up with a UK IP address and was able to stream every single event through the BBC website even if it wasn't on TV. I really hope there will be a similar option this time around.

this is all I have besides nexflix and youtube, bringing in all the network stuff plus a few random channels.

It allows me to watch jeapordy which is all there really is to watch anyway.....

It cost me $2.29 to build, it hooks into the main coax on the house and allows any tv in the house to receive it as long as they hook up to the cable outlet in the wall.

Cable free for more than 4 years. In Boston, that has saved $3k or more, which for a SITK (single income, two kids) house is very helpful.

I stream bike races (can't say I care much for the tour) live via the various cyclingfans.com links to Eurosport and Sporza. In the new house, I plan to setup a home network to stream these to the tv if I so desire.

For the kids, we have the Roku box and Netflix streaming to get our fill of Thomas the Train and Curious George.

Oh, and a good quality ($30) antenna on the tv gets us very good signal on PBS, ABC, NBC, etc for real time news or whatever.

Haven't had cable in over 7 years, I don't miss it , or all the COMMERCIALS at all! Such a waste of time and money in my opinion. I have internet access and an hdmi cord that can connect my laptop to my tv, works fine for me.

I am jealous. Would love to ditch it, but it would cause marital disharmony. Most of the s**t on cable TV is like nails on a blackboard to me.

Pitched it before Thanksgiving in favor of AppleTV with Netflix and Hulu+. I prefer football on the radio. Just need to figure out an antenna that will pick up CBC before the Olympics start; with that and their live YouTube streaming I should be fully Costas-free.

Oh god, I forgot about him. He is in possession of the most disingenuous countenance that I've ever laid eyes upon.

Just the fact that you can watch shuffleboar......err.. curling at 2am without fear of seeing him makes it almost interesting.
