Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
Asset management. I've just started a new job in a company that does asset management investigations and solutions. I'm am their new drafting resource. So I basically will be revising badly created and marked up line drawings for oil and gas. It is a new low in my career but I need to eat.
Does someone need a frame building apprentice? Already experienced.

If you were following along the ride report thread you can guess why I'm now grumpy. I figured out what was going with my bike - 8 months in and the GXP bottom bracket shat the bed. I've the earlier version of the same BB on a 7 year old bike that has never given an issue through 4 cyclocross season and a bunch of crappy conditions. Grr.

Grumps when my niche online forum grows and starts seeing threads related to everything but the niche that started it.
Nevermind. I'm just grumpy in general right now.

My old workplace is a hotbed of mediocrity now, and everyone there is happy about it. (I just got a job offer in Chicago, and had to complain about *something* before the midnight deadline.)
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
Less of a grump than a failing that I came to see was not something I should be blaming myself for. The last week has been fraught with inventing new ways to heal a patient that was salting its own wounds. I knew the answer was to walk away before I got implicated when things really went bad. Morose comes closer than grumpy.
It's not my wife or my life.

OK, a real one just in time... found a cool loft to rent, and checking out the neighborhood with Google Street View, I see what's downstairs: The Hubbard Dianetics Foundation. Probably quieter than a college bar for a neighbor, but sheesh.

Yeah, I know, it's Friday. Instant Messaging at work. Again. Idiots send "Hi, Tom." Then "Good Morning". If I'm dumb enough to rise to the bait they then type for a couple of minutes with what they want to address (which would have been a subject for an email because it doesn't need instant response). If somebody walked into my office and said "Hello" and then stood there for two minutes before getting out the next sentence, I'd probably just get up and leave before they began to talk.

The company for which I worked as research winemaker is downsizing and has just made me redundant. Seems appropriate that they did it on a Thursday.
On the upside: looks like I'll just have to make Lyrebird a full time gig.

Stuff is still in storage, have mortgage commitment, waiting on clear to close.
Was hoping the closing would take place this week.
In the meantime, not having the upcoming weekend to move my stuff into the new house complicates things further on a variety of levels.

Zero percent chance of rain forecast and I got caught in a brief, but torrential downpour.
Work, work, work. Details omitted to protect the innocent, the guilty, and the easily confused.
As Brandon says, the streets here grow glass. Today claimed yet another tire with tread that otherwise shows no wear.

co-worker thinks he is high and mighty -deleted just because-.
I hate talking to him on the phone. I've stopped answering my phone. He calls and asks if other people are in their office because they, too, have stopped answering their phones.
And when I do screw up and answer, there's no "hi" "hello" "hey"...nothing. Just barking.

More of a first world problem...
Yesterday was Canada day in the great white north.... and being such we were enjoying some fine craft beers.
Fast foreword to this mornings extended "commute" and the fact that the public washrooms at the lock system on the river were closed... I had to make double time to the closest starbucks - which was conveniently only about half hour away.

So there was this grump, back in April:

But then good news! He came back!

Yeah. So now guy #1 quit again. Fool me once, dude, fool me once... Maybe the real issue wasn't with the new job, but with this guy? Whatever, he can work out his commitment issues somewhere else.
See the Friday thread for the update on guy #2, now a former employee.

Perfect example:
(after already discussing it)
"I put those papers on your desk. I hand wrote them and put them on your desk."
"Look, I have (3 of 4) pages, but I don't have the (last one). I sent you what I had on Monday so that you could check. Why didn't you check?"
Silence
"No, I put them there. On your desk. All 4. I wrote them out."
"No you didn't. There was nothing on my desk but those (3 of 4) papers, and I did not lose it."
Hangs up. I just went up to his office and found that paper buried in a stack of other papers. Left it there. I know that if I tell him I found it, he'll think I had it and placed it there.
Some of these folks here underestimate me.
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
We're understaffed at work. Specifically my platform is supposed to have 4 engineers, 2 mechanical, 1 electrical, and 1 Process. We're down a mechanical engineer due to one leaving to move back closer to family in Idaho. I'm the process guy but I have a mechanical and electrical background. My boss says that the three of us need to cover for the yet to be replaced fourth guy. They aren't actively looking for a replacement, it's more like they're seeing if 3 people can do all the work. We can but it means working extra hours so I told my boss that I wouldn't be an enabler of his shitty plan. I show up at 7am, work on my stuff and help the others until 4pm and then put all my stuff up and leave. The other two people do the same. He accuses me of being an instigator and told him that was accurate. I also reminded him that I'm a retired naval officer and a disabled Veteran and that this job is less than half of my monthly income and to not try and hold anything over me. I can hardly wait for The Boy to finish school.
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
On vacation in Lake Tahoe. And I grabbed the wrong shoes to ride with. So no riding this week.
Re: Get Your Grump on Thursdays - Was (What's chapping my @ss today?)
Not grump from me but a bit guilt complex, because after reading everybody's recent shit I feel like my shit is going pretty good by comparison.
Reading all these posts and listening to my music jams, I think I was even bobbing my head and doing that Mathew McConaughey thing, "alright, alright, alright"
Crap. Probably jinxed myself. On my next ride I'll have a stomach virus and bust a gut and ruin my favorite bibs while busting my spare tube and my phone's battery will be dead, all on that deserted six mile stretch in ninety degree heat. Ah, there it is, I'm grumpy now.
It won't last though, I still look good as hell. That always cheers me up.

Surely one of our fine internet outlets can fedex you pedals or cleats or whatever it would take to make it work?
