Default T-Day 2024: let the cookery commencery

This T-Day we attend a vegetarian gathering not because we is one because most of the attendees are vegetarian.

My contribution will be a uncooked cranberry relish that includes chopped nuts, chopped apricots, jalapenos and honey. This is made several day ahead to allow the flavors to come into their own. It’s real gooood. I’ll post a recipe soon.

Also, I’ll make a no sugar apple crumble. This humble dish says “fall/winter to me” in every way, not to mention the India crew is going to kill it with mains.

TT and Mike...sadly Thanksgiving dinner will be at my Sister-in-law's, which means ok food and cheer...not what I'm used to at my home field. Mrs. RW is making some desserts, but I'll have to save the goodie photos for Christmas dinner at our house. Here's a photo taken today in our dining room with the missing turkey formation.

Well, Columbus thought he had reached the Indies, so Indian food would be appropriate.
It's the Alt-History Thanksgiving, that would have save generations of Americans
    eating dry turkey.

Staying at my sisters, for reasons of dogs and kids. Dinner at my folks tomorrow. Like RW it will not be a gourmands delight but this nevertheless remains the most important holiday in our family. I stemmed and peeled about 75 mushrooms tonight to be stuffed tomorrow. The antipasto platters look great.

Find yourself the Padma Lakshmi turkey recipe if you can. I’ll be back at it next year.

Star of the show was the green bean casserole. Not the regular one, the America's Test Kitchen one but not their current one but the old one, somebody in the comments posted a picture of the old recipe and it looked way more tasty. I'm going to use the trick of thickening sauces with dried mushrooms ground up to a powder a lot after this. That makes a roux that ain't your nana's roux. Hum doggy that had some flavor, oh yes it did.

My son is in town so we drove down to Phoenix on Wednesday. We made a detour to see Montezuma's Castle and Well near Camp Verde. Wednesday evening, we met up with an old Navy buddy who has been through a lot lately, so we ate a ton of ceviche, chilled shrimp, and Sushi. It was therapeutic for both of us. We share a bunch of history, most of which we can never discuss. We did talk about the time we were almost assaulted by a guy on a Vespa in Phuket, that's not classified. Today, we met up with the family we chose in Mesa and had a great day of grazing on Italian, Afro-Caribbean, and traditional thanksgiving fare. My blood relation family is pretty combative at Thanksgiving, so we try to maintain at least one state of separation.

I managed to attend a Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday night. As an Aussie. The host has one American (from Louisiana) parent and has a Thanksgiving dinner as a consequence (albeit Dad was not in attendance). We had turkey, corn bread and black eyed peas for main, and pumpkin pie for desert. We discovered, when we communally read a very simplistic book about the Pilgrims, that we also should have had version, eel and clams. The host lost marks at this point. There is a slight cycling story to the dinner as I was far from the life of the party as I had drive my eldest boy to the edge of the state to commence a 9 day bike ride (with school) on the Sunday. Almost 7 hours of driving is not a great way to spend a Saturday! And it was 35 degrees. Yuck!

Turkey day was great, spent the day at my parents house with a lot of family. I made some bread (sourdough, smoked cheddar and jalapeno) that turned out great. Taught one of my younger cousins how to ollie - haven't been on a board in 20 years, and I STILL GOT IT BABY! Then we went back in the woods to the creek I haven't been to over a decade. 20mins later I tripped playing kickball and have been HURTIN' ever since. No cuts/scrapes, but I bruised my ribs for sure.

Why do people feel the need to list all of their bikes in their signature?
