Default Clear coat only on steel frame

My Ahearne is clear coated, and I love the way it shows the nice fillet brazing of the builder.

I have some surface rust under the clear coat, and it does not seem to be getting much worse.

In fact, I kind of like it!

However, there are a few places where the rust feels a little bumpy, which concerns me some.

My question is this....have there been any advances in the ability to clear coat to prevent surface rust on a steel frame?

I'm considering having it refinished at some point

I think if I had my choice, my favorite color for this bike would still be raw steel tubes with brass fillets vs picking an actual color.

    I thought it was Ti.

My Breezer was nickel plated. Beautiful finish.

Dark Matter did my Coconinos and both are very high quality. Maybe a strip and refinish via a clear powder coat.

I know it was originally finished by Spectrum, not sure if it was a clear powder coat? or "regular" clear coat?

Would a power coat clear avoid the "rust under clear" issue?

I recommend you shoot an email to Oliver at Dark Matter and ask. Garro sends his frames to Dark Matter and they're all built to used and abused in the elements. http://www.darkmatterfinishing.com/

I think Hot Tubes is about 2 hours from Hillsdale. Would mean you didn't have to ship. And they are a long time good shop. I think that's who painted my Zank.
