    Default Brushed Ti Finishing

Any suggestions on getting a nice brushed Ti finish?

Been using my dynafile with a .5 x 18 in nonwoven belt and it works fine but the 3m belts die pretty quick (they also start to add pockmarks if they get too dirty) and they also aren't cheap. I'm curious what the most efficient way to get a brushed Ti finish is, or what the bigger manufacturers are doing, considering getting a 2x72 belt for my KMG grinder to get the bigger surfaces..

Anyone care to share their method?

    thanks!

I do it by hand here using strips of red Scotchbrite in a shoe-shine action, working longitudinally (if that's the word). It takes time, wear a mask, finish with Bike Lust - but it's worth it!

    Cole,

To achieve an uniform brushed finish, here is the process I follow...

    - take your finished ti product and wipe it clean with a bit of alcohol or acetone
    - if you want to keep any polished graphics, mask them up now
    - Run the piece through a media blaster...I use a 50/50 blend of glass bead and 120 grit aluminum oxide
    - With gloved hands, remove the piece and blow with dried, compressed air
    - Use 3M red scotchbrite and work the tubes perpendicular to their length, applying even pressure as you work back and forth
    - remove any masking to reveal the polished tube
    - Once an even finish has been achieved, spray with a little Lemon Pledge, wiping the tubes evenly.

You can now touch it with your ungloved hands and the finish can easily refreshed in the future. Please feel free to hit me up if you have further questions.

    Hi Rody,

Starting to dial in the process.
Resigning to hand work actually speeds things up in some cases.

    thanks!
