    Default Olympic National Park recommendations

Thinking about a family road trip to the Pacific NW this August. Just started reading about Olympic National Park and thought those of you with experience there could give me a clue about which area(s) would be best to consider for lodging. We'd likely spend 4-5 days there, checking out the scenery, going on kid-friendly hikes, and riding bikes if possible, From there we'd head to Seattle and maybe Bellingham. We're also probably going to have our dog with us, so pet-friendly places will be a must.

Any suggestions on which quadrant of the park to make home base would be appreciated. Thanks!

This is a great kid-friendly place that adults can also enjoy. Big pool for the kids and hot spring tubs for the adults! The setting is lovely and there are many walking/hiking trails accessed from the lodge. Book early!

We stayed at Kalaloch Lodge. I thought it was a nice combination of services and access to the beach and forest. We were able to do some shopping while out and about for local products and bring them back to cook in our cabin - which was great - but we also ate at the restaurant and the food was very good there. We managed to get a cabin facing the beach, which was great. We got typical weather - fog and rain - but we came prepared. The creek that runs alongside the property and flows into the ocean presents a unique opportunity to do some exploring. The restaurant also did prepared lunches for taking along during a day hike. That worked out well. The one problem is that it is a bit south of the more dramatic beaches near Quillayute (Rialto, 2nd & 3rd are about an hour away) but for us, that meant things were a bit calmer(?) so we could retreat back to our cabin at the end of the day and do nothing. The Hoh Rain Forest was spectacular, but we also saw the worst people behavior there. Just have to hike up the trail a bit to get away from them.

Take a look at Lake Crescent and the Lake Crescent Lodge. The whole area is spectacular beauty and quiet.

I lived on Lake Crescent for years, our family has a long history there. The road around the backside of the lake is David THompson Road.
