Default Anyone tried 550 paracord for DIY boot laces?

I'm tempted, because I have quite a bit of it and it's cheap, but I think I'd probably have to switch knots because I've found that in general paracord is slippery doesn't hold "basic" knots that well.

Has anyone tried this, and did it work?

I have used it several times however seem to prefer laces when available. It works in a pinch.

I was looking at some laces made from paracord. some threads came up on reddit stating that they were indeed slick, and wouldn't stay tied. so, i passed.

Seems like hollow laces work better. Something about the inner core and outer sleeve on paracord that makes it less satisfactory. It also sometimes makes it too thick to fit through boot/shoe eyelets.

I've done it for a long time and have it in my work boots right now. Works great, though you need to pull the strands from the core to make it work.

Why buy laces when I've got tons of this stuff laying around?!?

Jason, other than gutting the paracord, does a regular shoelace knot know work for you, or do you have to use something a bit more complicated?

I recently put a set of these in some boots, and I think they're hollow (they feel that way anyhow), but I've been super happy with them the ~two or so weeks I've had them on my Redwings. My boots came with the flat waxed laces and they were a bitch because they were so sticky. The paracord laces are indeed much slicker, which is great for me. Because of the shape of my arch and how the tongue is cut on my boots I need to loosen the laces pretty much the whole way down towards the toe to get them on/off, and with the waxed laces that meant individually pulling each bit between each set of eyelets. With the paracord I can just gently pull the boots wide and the whole thing loosens right up, it's SO much faster and easier.

I use the knot shown on their video, it's only one super quick step away from a normal knot and it's held tight for me, I haven't had to retie my boots once.

Nothing special here. I double knot everything as I work around a lot of machines with moving parts but that's about it.
