I think the vast majority of studies sociologists have done concluded that around the world financially "poor" people are just as happy and satisfied with their lives as "rich" people.

(assuming we aren't talking about the ones who are worried about where they'll get their next meal)

Happier, I believe. The ones who have the most complain the loudest.

Again: if the good old USA isn’t satisfactory, because it has this thing or lacks that other thing, and you don’t think it’s worthwhile to be the change you seek, and you will GTFOH, what do you offer your newly adopted homeland in return for accepting you?

9k per person who has read this thread and we can have that DR hilltop place.

I recall that what most of them find/found is that there is a happy medium / bell curve kind of situation (as with most things it seems). You get happier up until a point, then less happy with more wealth. That said, I think most of them ID'd family/community as the single most important factor.

Cool Re: Any American Ex-Pats here? We are heavily considering...

I'd like to thank everyone for giving me something to think about in this thread...

Me and the Missus have made our decision and... we're closing on a modest 2 acres with an ocean view in... Maine. ;)

    Congrats Martin.
@johnmdesigner - my wife is a specialist which could make the process better if we decide to move after I retire. Otherwise I don't know if I'll be able to deal with it. I have a feeling that a lot of places we would want to go will have several rings of hell. I have a feeling we'll stay in the states and take long trips.
