Ugh, enough with the headstock and nut arguments, just get rid of em!

To throw another wrinkle into this conversation, hey Too Tall, may we inquire what kind of music/artists the missus is into?

That's the million dollar question. Because I've never seen a child or animal who was not in love with her playful tunes might be a natural? I'll slip in a few cowpoke tunes for giggles.

Learning is more fun if you like what you're trying to learn--find her a book of songs of a favorite artist of hers besides any other lessons or learning material. Recordings too--my stepmother many years ago put up with me learning bass to Zep, 10 Years After, Blodwyn Pig, and similar.

Good thoughts, so hold off on Like a Bat Out of Hell? Darn.

My preference is inconsequential, she favors James Taylor. This will be fun.

This is like Tom Kellogg saying “Nice bike”.

Thanks Jay and Mike. I'll string it up with some extra soft nylon strings for her. Bet with a wee bit of memory jogging I can remember how to tune by ear using 4th and 5th frets IIRC.

This is getting me excited, maybe I'll get two guitars ;)

*I played classical guitar 4/5/6 grades.

Nice choice for your wife. If you do get one (for you) the previous Zager link (of the "In the year 2525 fame) is good, they are well made and there are several on sale now at various price points right now with free case and shipping (the case also has a relative humidity monitor), which is nice.

Josh, that guitar may not play nice with true nylon strings (not enough tension). I'd check out the next best thing, which IMO would be a set of what are called "silk and steel" strings--they're pretty common. Tim

Irrespective of tension, the tuning machines and (especially) that bridge definitely won't play nice with nylon strings. Good call on the silk&steel solution.

Thanks for the string info. Chuck Levin's likes whatever is on there. We will start with that and modify as inspired.

    *Love this place.

No problem, she can instead learn "Eruption."

(Or maybe "Spanish Fly," since she's gone acoustic.)
