    Default Drone Take Downs

I work in such an industry that takes their security very seriously. No shared documents, no photos, no discussions etc. without a need to know.

Recently, some brilliant mind thought it would be a good idea to release a drone of the facility. Owner's not happy and suggested this https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-europe-35750816 Perhaps old news but relevant in my world at the moment.

The point to this mention - I absolutely love when mother nature excels. Brilliant answer to a man made problem.

I'm a huge fan of any design that needs to check in with Mother's Patent Office before proceeding.

Nice. Let's hope it doesn't turn into an arms race. No weaponized anti-eagle drones please.

I used to work in a similar facility. They just jammed them and voila, like rocks falling from the sky.

If the facility is in the US, they need to be in FCC or DoD compliance (depending on location). If they’re jamming without approval (either FCC, DoD, or joint), they can get in a lot of trouble...

Thanks for posting the video. That is very cool.
I was at a local state park last weekend and saw 4 bald eagles. One was chasing the other and trying to drive him out of his territory. It was very neat to see.

Those suckers are heavy. I held a bald eagle on my wrist and it was tough to keep a straight face. The same day the falconer had his bird stoop right over our heads. Like six inches over our heads. It was spectacular. Hawking is a lot of fun and the birds are incredibly beautiful.

This may be silly, but I've always wondered about any damage a drone's props might do to the bird's foot. Those things are spinning pretty fast.

The first vid posted above states the eagles aren't harmed by the drones.

If you saw their feet close up you'd pity the drones. Understand that to get food those talons are built to sink into something that is maybe fighting back. They don't damage easily.

I was also surprised at how heavy they are....

I love eagles but people can be stupid. My fear is that someone will try to design a drone to take out an eagle.

Drones are a real problem for birds and other wildlife. During breeding season - which coincidently is when people go outside - drones drive birds off nests and create opportunities for predators. Whether an eagle attacks a drone or flees a drone, either activity leaves the nest unguarded and vulnerable. Red-tailed hawks and ravens are very willing to grab eggs or eaglets. With nesting shorebirds, herring gulls are the main predators. These sorts of things can happen even if the drone owner is well meaning and in compliance with the law.
