What's more depressing is some people feel the need to carry one.

I would have thought that carrying a gun is equivalent to wearing partisan attire but I am a foreigner and don't understand these things.

Carrying a gun in a (supposedly) civil, democratic society is a sign of insecurity and fear. It's a sign that our "best and greatest society" isn't. A weapon should never be a fashion or political statement.

this, exactly. the same folks claiming we live in the greatest nation are the folks who feel some need to carry in public... why? if we are the greatest, what need would one have to protect ones self in such dramatic fashion?

or said another way, how does the greatest nation on earth produce such mentally fragile, anxious, humans? surely the greatest nation on earth has better things to do than argue about something so basic as firearms and ones right to carry such barbaric instruments. yawn... can we move onto bigger topics already? ones that eliminate the need for guns in general?

Well I'm done for the day. Fourteen hours at the polls. The setup/teardown of the physical stuff is done. The tabulators are still doing the final write-ins but the rest will go quickly. 70% of the town did absentee or early voting, and that had been run through the machines by 3:00pm. About 1100 actual in person voters so that was quite light.

I wish everywhere went so smoothly...

Now everyone take a deep breath and let it out slowly...

    $20 says less. I've got a feeling.

Also, having him become a neutered background player for his last term would be some consolation to me.

That would require a takeover of the Senate and a well deserved case of colon cancer.

I wonder if the mail-in ballots will have an effect. Goodness, all the hard liquor in the house may be consumed before long...

    The long answer.

I plan to get up at 5 a.m. in London to see what is happening. If you have a decisive margin, you get a result early and probably sometime between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. GMT.

If the race is tight, you go to a Bush - Gore scenario and you will move to manual recount and finally to Judicial Time- (slow)

Cbsnews.com has a live stream available for free and they will have full coverage if the BBC fails to impress you.

I suspect if close, the Trump strategy will be:
    1. ask for recount
    2. hope to throw out mail-in ballots
    3. litigate and postpone a decision at the state level
    4. agitate state legislatures to appoint delegates because the vote was tainted. (Trump's litigation strategy is usually to run out the clock)

Biden's strategy in a recount is to keep mail-in ballots. Litigate and postpone for President Pelosi

    .
I think Biden 273 Trump 268 with Biden narrowly taking Wisconsin&Michigan.

Trump Campaign will challenge mail-in ballot signatures and can get 7-10% of ballots thrown out. Since mail in is favoring Biden by a 2/3 margin, this flip of either state gives Trump the win.

    Yep.

What. The. Fuck. Is. Wrong. With. America?

Even if Biden wins, the fact that it is so close, that so many people support an unutterably horrible human, is deeply disappointing.

The underbelly is no longer the underbelly.

    It has become our face.
