    Default Covid test #2

    I had a Covid-19 test about 2 months back.
    I had some worrisome symptoms.
The test results arrived on Sunday following a Friday nose swab.
    The test results were negative.
This Monday I went for another test for an elective surgery this Friday.
The car lines were much longer.
The car lines were now divided between symptomatic tests and tests for surgical procedures.
The first test on one nostril used the long upper nasal swab with a sharp sting reaction.
The second test was done with shorter swabs on both nostrils with no sharp reaction.
I'll ask about swab change procedure on Friday.
I'll let you know how long the test results take.
Just glad to be in the state I was born in, by luck.
    By choice, I'm still here.

The Covid test I had a few weeks ago was both nostrils with a shorter swab. Made my eyes water and nose run. My doctor told me it was the new protocol. He's done about forty in my small town. One positive result: a woman with a large family whose only symptom was loss of taste and smell. Nothing else. No one she came into contact with became sick.

Like you, I am glad to live where I do. In the middle of nowhere.

    Result, negative.
    Report arrived the next day.
    That's how it should work.
Happy to see the bipartisan six state governor co-op to get fast turn around testing today.
    That's the ticket!

A riding bud tested positive about a month ago and he was told by the Doc, that because he didn’t have a fever, he didn’t need a test. He persisted and after driving 30 minutes to be tested, was called two days later and told about the positive test. No trace request, no questions about where he’d been, etc. He was concerned enough to call anyone that he’d come in contact with for a two week period and no bad news has come from his contacts. Interestingly enough, he had a persistent cough and felt extremely tired but without the fever. A weeks later, back to normal.

Has anyone heard of cyclists being exposed from group rides? I was comparing notes with a friend yesterday who's married to an infectious disease doc who's high up the ladder in a very well known national health care provider and she's not heard of anyone contracting covid from outside group activities. Obviously anecdotal but I figured I'd hear of covid cases in the cycling community and I haven't heard a thing. Anyone out there heard anything?

Bob, in SoCal, at least 8 major group rides continue with an average of 50 riders each. One, The World Famous Montrose, was never on hiatus although ridership did drop to about 20 for a few weeks during the worst of the Global Pandemic (in LA at least). It's now back up to 200 plus riders (there are two waves). Phil Gaimon claimed that an acquaintance informed him 5 individuals believe they were infected on one the Westside group rides. I've asked my sources to corroborate and at this point I'm convinced Phil was fear mongering.

I know of two Covid-19 positive individuals who are regulars on The World Famous Montrose and they were both infected by family members who are heath care professionals. These people did not infect anyone on their respective rides.

In any case, LA may provide the largest sample in the US as 500 to 1000 individuals are regularly mixing on these group rides which represent a true demographic cross section of the region (age, socioeconomics, race and ethnicity).

Thanks beeatnik. The training rides here in W Central FL dwindled at one point but I've heard they're as big as they've ever been. I've steered clear of the groups for health reasons but I've not heard of anyone picking up or transmitting covid on any of the rides. Not that it can't happen but cycling seems like one of the safer activities right now.

No clusters or superspreading events in 5 months. It's still an odd sight to see the massive peloton roll by with at most two riders in masks. Though some people (understandably) won't feel safe until there's a vaccine, the social shaming has ceased.

I've been watching a group I ride with in Grapevine TX, the Chain Gang.
Seems that no one has gotten Covid yet as far as I can tell.
    Pretty big group, too.
Either the virus doesn't spread very well in the peloton, or it has just not got there yet.
