Car content: Dash cams

Does anyone here have a recommendation for a car dash cam? The number of crazy things I see on the road has me a little paranoid.

Does anyone know if there are meaningful insurance/legal ramifications of installing one?

First off, I don’t blame you for wanting to install a dash cam; my job requires me to be on the road constantly, and I remain in a constant state of disbelief at the b.s. people do behind the wheel. I don’t have any recommendations for actual units, but I would assume that the installation of one would be beneficial to you legally. No way for another driver to lie to a responding officer in case of an accident, no way for a driver to hit and run, etc.
