Spotted this young one while walking around the lake by the house. Cygnets will be here soon as there are three swans a nesting.

I was working in the garage and heard this weird yodeling sound from outside and knew immediately what it was! Ran out of the barn and looked up and there were two sandhill cranes flying overhead, making a big racket from way up in the air. Definitely the long distance route and not the local low altitude. But I could hear them quite clearly. I've seen lots of them in Indiana, Florida, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Arizona, so no mistaking that call once you've heard it. And then they fly like cranes with legs out and neck extended so pretty easy by sight as well. Not rare here but uncommon or irregular(?) during spring migration. A favorite bird of mine I think.
