A while back there was a thread on mass shootings in the US.

I was reminded of it by a post of Rich’s. I genuinely think that he could sell his Parlee before I could buy a gun. But I’m in Australia.

So what’s happened in the States? Progress...developments or status quo?

Our “news” is dominated by bushfires, our own PM’s latest moronic (in)action, the orange man and the election of a new head prefect in the UK.

It is easier to just ask to find stuff out!

That thread is on page 4. The mass shooter today was a Saudi Air Force pilot in training. It happened on the US Naval Airstation in Pensacola, Florida where personal weapons are banned.

And bingo... Rich no longer owns a Parlee and I still don’t own a gun. Briefly looked into high powered air rifles but discovered I’d need a gun license. Plus, i was looking on line. An actual physical shop here where I could get one? No idea.

As far as I can tell the US is evolving back to the Third World pretty quickly, but even I was surprised by this. If you told me it was Somalia, I wouldn’t doubt it for a second. How is this better than warlords and guns mounted on Hilux pick ups? WTAF

Fixed it for you. Not for me. Colour is not the weird part. White guys doing it would be compared to Somalia. Really. Only Americans talk about militias IMHO The rest of the world sees non-military people carrying military guns.

But the critical comments only seem to pile up when people of color march with guns. It was the impetus for gun control in the 60's and 70's.
Note that I am not pointing the index finger at you, thus the "we" language in my previous post.

Yeah, generating an accurate impression of the United States with what is presented on Twitter is probably not the best way to do it.

I haven't seen a militia around here in weeks. But we have this heinous television channel run by some Aussie fascist that keeps bleating out lie after lie. That goes 24-7-365.

I get that. It’s a miracle I haven’t already been killed by one of our many deadly animals, and the kangaroos going down the street are just a nuisance.

I know i’d probably live my whole life without seeing an assault rife, let alone a militia, and I probably wouldn’t be touched by a mass shooting. But I also know that the odds of this is lower living here (amongst tens, if not hundreds, of koalas) than there.

Hey, don't blame us, he's been a US citizen for 35 years.

The family were Scottish and of no importance until Rupert's grandaddy was boosted into ownership of two local papers in mining towns by the owners of the mines who wanted a reliable propagandist to counter the effect of the existing union biased papers. It is worth remembering that the family fortune was always based on their ability and willingness to promulgate right wing propanganda.

The really good news for you is that apparently Lachlan makes his father seem well balanced and fair.

Fortunately, he’s in the Land of the Free. The great meritocracy. I can’t imagine they’d get away with blatant nepotism there. It’s not like Trump promotes his family!

That was the most hilarious bit of the debate for me. Trump suggesting Hunter Biden was just making money out of the family name. That should have been an easy smackdown - has there ever been more nepotism in the Whitehouse?

Apparently my kids saw a brown snake in the backyard on the weekend. And I have been flattened by a kangaroo while riding a mountain bike! Haven't been hit by a drop bear though!
