Default Don't Do This (the last part)

Some dried chiles from our cleaning lady. Very sweet but remove the seeds and placenta because they are very spicy. Then chop skins in food processor and steep in warm in sauce pan until oil is red. Pour into storage container for use later as a sweet, slightly spicy, smoky addition to enchilada sauce etc.

Followed her instructions and managed not to spill mixture on its way into container.

Then my nose got itchy, so I rubbed my nose with my fingers....

A friend had a similar - but BETTER - story involving home-grown chilies and self-gratification, with photos. I'll let your imagination do the rest.

I have some Spanish Naga and 7 Pot Douglah peppers growing in pots on the patio that my middle kid planted this Spring. I like to grow them but I won't touch them with a ten foot pole.

Nitrile gloves are your friends. I think they give your "scratch the nose" reflex enough to think about that they generally prevent this sort of thing... Seems to work for me...

Ummm, yes but you take off a glove and then use the now un-gloved hand to take off the remaining glove.

Was never a problem to me cooking but once clearing poison ivy from the yard and then going inside to pee....

We place any ridiculously hot peppers in a stainless steel basket (with clamp) for family cooking.
This allows for easy extraction and ensures nobody chomps into a really hot pepper at the table.

I wear contact lenses. I'll wash my hands with dish detergent after cooking, wait to put the lenses in until after I take a shower and rub shampoo all over my head and depending on what I chopped up the night before I still get that zesty feeling.
