    Default Neon/Fluorescent Paint

    Here's what I know.

    1. Neon paint sucks at staying neon if it gets hit with the UV rays a lot.

    2. If you don't use the high-falooootin' UV blocking clear coats neon paint sucks even more at staying neon.

    3. I live in Los Angeles -- sunny 300+ days a year.

    4. I'm pretty sure the more the color is on the red side of things the faster it fades.

Those of you who have used neon/fluorescent paint, what kind've lifespan are you seeing?
I've heard some car guys say you can start to see a fade after a week. I've heard other people say only to use the HoK stuff and that it lasts longer.

    Thanks!

    Quality costs.

Stay away from water based and inexpensive brands. PPG or HOK only.

As important is high solids clear.

I still have 20+ year old neon bikes out there that look good. That said, the luminescent, glow-in-the-dark bikes, have not fared as well long-term.

I would check with a painter who works with these paints (not all are willing), but my understanding is that some neon colors are more vulnerable to fading than others. I believe that neon pink is one of the worst—if not the worst—offenders.
