    Default Frame Jig Cones

    Good Morning,

I am in the process of purchasing parts to build an extruded aluminum frame jig and am having a difficult time finding options for cones for the headtube, bottom bracket and top of seat tube.

I see that Chopsource sells a set of 5 stainless cones with max OD of 2" and minimum OD of 7/8" for $164, so these may work, however would like to have other options such as finding three that are stepped so the BB and bottom of the HT fit to hold them in place a bit better.

I do not have access to a lathe or other tools to make my own, so would prefer to purchase them.

If anyone knows of a better place where I can find these or if you have other suggestions I would appreciate it!

Thanks for your help, especially this being my first post.

    Cheers!

Motorcycle frame building cones come up on Ebay rather frequently. I haven't done the math to see if some of these will do for bicycle building although IIRC the cones' IDs are larger then typical for bicycle needs.

Alex Meade makes a lot of fixtures and frame jig bits including cones. I've had him make a bunch of bits (including 4 cones of differing purposes) for me and have always been happy. Andy

I picked up a set from The Jig | ideas2cycles

Showed up in about a week and I think they were around $130.

They work fairly well and since I already had a bunch of 8020 sitting around it was a pretty cheap way to whip up a window frame jig.

That being said, working with someone like Alex or Todd Farr (Todd built me an absolutely bomber BB post and some custom V-block spacers to line everything up on a surface plate then proceeded to charge me far, far too little for them) is a great way to support our local folks.

Right on Will, I appreciate the suggestion!

I spoke with Alex (what a nice guy!) and he is going to make up a set for me drilled and tapped for purge lines as well as all of the other specs I needed for my entry into framebuilding.

Have a good one and thanks again!

Quickly wanted to follow up and give my thanks again to Alex Meade.

First, such a nice helpful guy to chat with.

Secondly, he does beautiful machine work. Picked up a set of cones and a couple of dummy axles.

    Cheers
